Newly purchased x51v; shipped with A11; should upgrade to A12?

Hi folks,

I just bought a x51v (arrived last week) and it came shipped with A11. I expected A12, so I started searching these forums for info on upgrading to A12 when I noticed that some people are reporting bugs with A12. So now I'm wondering if I should even upgrade from A11 to A12? Maybe Dell shipped the unit with A11 and not A12 for a reason? Any thoughts?

P.S. I've seen the benchmarks and other reports of faster response times with A12, but these seem to be all compared to A06 or something similar. Is there still a vast performance improvement from A11 to A12?

It has been reported here that ROM A11 is what has been installed on all new X51V units people are getting from Dell. A12 is the ROM update for all other X51Vs. It was also commented here that the assumption is that there is no difference between them.

Ah, that makes sense... I remember seeing somewhere that someone said A11 was the latest, but I assumed that was a typo, lol. :) Thanks for the info!

No problem and welcome to the site. It has a very helpful search feature that will give you lots of threads to look into for any subject. I that does not help you enough just ask away and some one will help. Again welcome.

A12 is the public release. A11 the distribution release. Both are the same.

Look under the Settings --> System Info. It is stated there. As for the A12 upgrade from A11, don't bother. Both are identical. ;-)

I'm liking my new x51v... definitely a step up from my old ipaq, which I gave away to a friend about a year ago. :)
