Question X51V and WMA DRM

Hello
I am running WinXP Pro SP2, Windows Media Player 10. Axim X51V Rom A12. I have a 1 gig KingstonSD card and a Lexar 64MB CF card. Active Sync 4.2
I have some WMA files that are controlled by DRM. According to the file, and their support group, the rights allow syncing to devices.
So...I open WM10, then, I plop Axim into the cradle. It starts to sync, gets to the "media" portion and tells me I need to create a partnership by going into WM10 and selecting Sync.
Now, in WM10, my Axim does not show up nor does the SD card. The SD card only shows up if I plop it into a card reader where it promptly shows as drive M:. I create a partnership with th SD card that is in my reader (M:). Then, I transfer a protected file. I remove the card, plug it back into Axim (I admit Axim is not a great name, I am still looking to name it..maybe Gumby? but I digress). The Axim recognizes the card, scans for media, find media, opens up WindowsMedia on the Axim. Then it won't play, saying the license is invalid or corrputed.

Looking at file explorer I see the file and I see the license file. I am pretty confused on this
Help!
Dave

Often the DRM license only allows copying to another device x number of times. x varies from (I've seen) 5 to 10. SO is it possible you've already copied the track more than permitted.

Rant Mode on NOW: I hate the way DRM penalises purchasers of legal music. I had quite a number of tracks ripped with DRM from my CDs and downloaded (legally)... about 20,000 at that time. When I then started copying selection of the protected tracks to mp3 player and then changed selection the legally downloaded songs stopped after a few changes.

The ripped CD's ran into another problem. I use a Phillips Streamium to stream music to my HiFi. Subsequently discovered that DRM does not allow you to stream music!!!!

My solution.... I re-ripped all of my CD's into unprottected mp3 format (should have done this in the first instance but didn't know at the time what protected would cause). Copied all of my downloaded tracks to CD and then re-ripped onto my PC without DRM.

oh man! try lossless WMA with no protection!!! sounds great over fibre to amp :)

(makes great sounding cds as well)

the way they have DRM these days its cheaper to just buy the cd at 8.99 for 1 song ;) )

Unfortunately PC and Hifi are too separate, hence the need for wireless. The MP3s I ripped are at maximum bitrate and they sound great. Agree with you on the buy CDs :realmad: Since the problems I had with legal downloaded music I never touch it! The first time I encountered the problem with multiple copies to an MP3 player was when changing tracks a number of times followed by about 4 crashes (it was a Samsung POS). Suddenly found I couldn't put the songs on.
