Question A12 + Wi-fi On + Sleep + Dock = WSOD (3 times over)

Hi,

I have had Dell ship me 3 X51v's in 3 days ... Am I on record pace ?

I had my original since March - running A06 with all the known tricks for fooling the unit into not throwing WSOD. However, following the A12 update, if I left Wi-fi on, and allowed the unit to go to sleep, and happened to dock it in that state, it would wake up with a WSOD.

They walked me through some of the the tricks I already knew - fake server, disable error reporting - and some I hadn't heard of before - processor to max in power settings, and disable power management on the Lan Card. Nothing worked. I even tried a couple more things I had been told by the tech. after the A06 upgrade - uncheck Open Activesync on connection - uncheck synchronize clock.

They replaced the unit. I got a refurb with A06. Installed A12 ... same again. Next day another unit. Another refurb with A06. Installed A12 ... same again. Next day another unit arrived - but I have been away on a trip so haven't been able to play with it yet ...

Am I missing anything ?

Are there any other tricks I missed ?

I am synching with a Dell laptop running XP Prof, with AS 4.2

Thanks in advance

That issue with A12 has been brought up already but I don't recall anyone to have a legit solution to that except turning off wifi before putting in cradle.

Had read that post - but it seemed to be suggesting that some software loaded on the Axim was causing the issue. I have the problem with a clean upgrade - didn't install anything at all on it.

Yup. Probably is a problem from the start. It's just that there are people who installs everything right after upgrading and they never will know if that problem is there from the start or is software related. All I can tell you is there are people who are experiencing the same problem. Sorry.

Yep I get it too. Got it on A06 and A12.. :(. Atleast the soft reset on the A12 isn't as painful :)

Anyway tied to hardware version ???? Since going to A12 I've had zero WSODs. And thats letting it go to sleep with WiFi on, then placing in cradle.

Hardware Version A00

I did the ROM upgrade to A12 the day it was issued by Dell. No issues at all. In fact it was an easy install as long as you do not take the Axim out of the cradle to do the first hard reset when asked to do so. Ive had zero WSOD, and no issues with WiFi or AS starting on their own. No battery drain and no soft resets required to wake my unit up.

Hardware Version A00

Was wondering the same thing. I received yet another Refurbished A01 Hardware Axim with A06 ROM - and got back onto Support before trying the upgrade. They had promised to send a new one.

The tech. said there is an issue with the ROM being incompatible with the unit. Transferred me to a Supervisor who said he is going to do an exchange for a New unit. And, he said ... Go ahead and upgrade it as soon as it arrives - you should have no problems with it.

Interesting to see what hardware revision the unit is when it arrives.

We'll see ...

In the battery compartment.
You have to take out the battery to see it.

Is there any reason to let the wifi on ? Otherwise it's not such a big issue if you just have to disable wifi before cradeling it. Nevertheless, it should just work so it is still a crappy bug.

I have A01 Hardware and no problem is occured in ROM A06 and A12.... my PDA is running smooth.

You have exchanged 3 units and still have this problem.... it may be something wrong in your using or connection with the Charging Cradle.

Again, I'd say that people are skipping steps and not fully completing the upgrade. An uncomplete upgrade will revert back to A06 on a Hard Reset.
