It's all subjective. I did the upgrade under 4.1 and have had no problem for several weeks now.

I have a X51V that I upgraded to ROM A12 the first day it was out. I have had no issues with barrery draining or for that matter any issues that I had previously experienced with ROM A06, A04 or A01. My unit is considerably faster in almost every aspect.

Same here as the two above posters (except I started at A06, not A01).

Went from A06 to A12, my X51v is as stable as my X50v with WM2003SE now.

Great.....

You may want to consider setting the power management to Complete power off.

I did use AS 4.1 and I have had the power drain issue, although only twice.

Maybe the question shouldn't be who used 4.1 and has power drain, but who has power drain and used 4.1?

Yeah, me too. Different problems seem to hit some people randomly. A06 + FST seems to work well and I don't feel the need to update until all the kinks are ironed out.

Thank you Nicusopteraean :)

This is my first post here and I want to say thanks to everyone for all the excellent information and resources contained herein. I have been reading here for about a month now ever since getting my x51v and normally I would just pull out the aces and fix my stuff and continue on my way but this time I kinda felt like I need to give back a small bit of feedback.

My x51v came with the A06 rom and WM5. I have a 1gig SD and CF card in it. I was used to using my hp rx3715 an awesome pad with 2003se on it.

I decided to upgrade to the a12 rom due to all of the reports of performance increases. In this 'getting used to' phase I have almost no programs installed on the x51v yet, so the 'clean out' performance boost of a hard reset would not factor into how this upgrade feels after its done.

I did the upgrade using ActiveSync 4.1 - all went well - at first...

After the A12 upgrade I did not notice any of the speed boost that everyone had been talking about, it seemed about the same or perhaps even a tiny bit slower. This was not due to the operating system condensing files as I made sure time had gone by before really judging how it felt now versus before the upgrade.

I did the Fake Server Trick also so that Active Sync would not load and run.

But the x51v pad still didnt seem right and now it was DISCHARGING its battery so fast that you could literally bring up the power meter and watch the Percentages click right down. It would discharge like this even when turned off in normal Sleep mode. When left turned off it would discharge down to almost nothing in about 2 or 3 days.

So I thought, 'OK this is just the way it is' and 'no wonder they make bigger batteries for these things'... but I kept digging at this Axim Site every day knowing that people were having this problem and were trying things and working on this problem, and then, lo and behold this thread...

So... I un-installed AS 4.1 - then installed AS 4.2 - and then re-did the whole flash proceedure and BINGO !! NO MORE CRAZY DISCHARGE :)

Also the pad seems more spunky now, the performance increase everyone was talking about. Its been 2 days now that the pad has been out of the charger with periods of brief use to check the temperature on the weather panel (its been 110 degrees here) and the battery is still at 91% yippie !!

One other thing I noticed: under the AS4.1 flash of A12, if I went to the Settings page and then brought up the MIRROR app, the text on the screen of that one app ONLY was like 4 times bigger than normal so you could not hardly read it and text was cut off on the bottom from being so huge.

I think this may be due to missing text formatting or screen formatting codes, missing or damaged ones, which may indicate that the AS4.1 flash upgrade did malfunction somehow. But the pad seemed normal, but a little sluggish and it was draining the batteries like there was no tomorrow. I got the feeling like this may have happened towards the end of the flash transfer process and also I got the feeling like maybe setup-files had been left on the pad which were really meant to be cleaned up and deleted after a successful flash upgrade. This paragraph is pure speculation though.

After re-flashing with AS4.2 everything is NORMAL now including the text in the Mirror app which I dont use but noted that it was fixed.

I am not going to re-flash again with 4.1 to try to re-create the problem sorry :)

A big thanks to nicusopterean because I dont think I would have ever tried AS4.2 otherwise and this problem prolly would have stuck until A14 comes out or something :)

X51V WM5 with A12 rom flashed with AS4.2
Fake Server Trick
Clock over Battery icon mod
Widcomm BT Stack
Internet Explorer files to CF card tweak

Can you sync by wifi using AS 4.2? I heard this feature was removed in the later AS versions?

I have 2 axim's. One is A12 HW A02.. I had no problems with this one. My other axim is A12 A01. I noticed that it was losing 2-3% every 8 hours.. follow one of the posts here and backed everything up.. Did a hard reset then a restore.. Axim is back to normal...8 hours later still 100%....
