I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction. I'm a first time user of the Axim 51v and an Apple Mac user. I have a general question to ask while I let my new PDAs battery charge up.
Do I need to install ActiveSync on powerup if I am going to sync to my mac iBook G4 using Missing Sync? I'm confused on the issue as, although I have a PC I don't intend to use it. Is it better to use ActiveSync with my PC first (I want to download a couple of applications to my PDA from the net.) then switch to my mac as soon as I want to start sync-ing with my mac? I'm probably in the wrong forum asking the question, but I'm a new user here, too!
I have the X50v on a mac. I use Mark space's synchronisation program as active sync will not work on a G4 mac even with virtual pc (a pc emulation program).
The sychronisation prog is available from this site http://www.markspace.com/ but you have to pay for it.

Welcome aboard Elizabeth... no need to blush around here... I wish I could help, but I'm a PC guy... while waiting for a reply, do as many search comniations as possible because I'm pretty sure I saw something relating to your question about a couple of weeks ago.... Happy searching!

Thank you! I'm just trying to see if I have to set up ActiveSync first as per instruction manual. I don't mind using it the once to get to where I want to go :-)

Hiya!
Thanks for that. I already have that link and I have that in mind for sync-ing my mac. I just wanted to know if I have to use ActiveSync first on my PC to get the Axim working to spec first, then go ahead and use it on my mac using the Missing Sync software.
I don't know what the Mac software can do, but if you can install programs using that software, there's no need that I can see to install Activesync on your PC.
If it can't install software, you can always try to find the .CAB files for the software you want to install, copy that over to your PPC, and then install it from there.

Thanks so much for that! ActiveSync on my PC is being a bit yukky!
It should be possible to use vmware and run windows XP with activesync in it. I'm migrating from Wintendo to Gentoo soon, and so far everything works in vmwares' virtual machine with a bit of configuration.
Hopefully vmware will release a Mac version soon. :)
