I just got word that my new Axim (x51v) arrived at the house this afternoon, :approve: so I'm starting to get the itch to go install crazy...:rolling:
I'm upgrading from an X5 and haven't played around with WM5.0 yet..so I was wondering - what are the 'must haves' that you experienced users would recommend to someone new to WM5.0 and a VGA screen...
I don't want to clutter up the Axim, but at the same time I would love to try out some cool apps that make use of the VGA screen and the new version of windows...
Magic Button, SBSH Pocket weather, iLauncher, TCPMP for playing videos, lots of others. I think there are other threads just like this one so do a search and also look a the 'My PDA' on other members who have the x51v for more ideas.
Thanks, I'll do a search on those...Sorrry - figured there were other threads, just couldn't find any initially..
I've got a 512mb cf and a 2gb sd so I should be fine for storage..
Well my new Axim appeared, but the screen protectors I ordered didn't! (you would think that Dell would put them both in one box eh?)
I recently requested two replacement feet for the ones that came off of my X51V. My request was granted and they arrived yesterday. They arrived in a 1 1/2 x 4 x 4 box. It had two layers of protection inside. The invoice I received (did not have to pay it since I have a 2 year complete replacement contract with Dell for my unit) was $11.00 (YIKES). Most of that charge had to be in all of that packaging.
TCPMP , Total commander , ilauncher , hallireader , xnview

Well first off, I install everything to my SD card. My 8gb microdrive is backup of cabs.
All my games and programs are on my SD card. I setup my Start Menu the way I want, and copy it to my CF card for backup. Then on another Hardreset, I just copy it back and my start menu is back with shortcuts and all.
Besides games and random apps to my SD card, here are the essentials I install to the built in storage.
First off I install WinRAR (pocketRAR) from a CAB file. This allows me then to use my backup zip/rar files containing various other cab files.
Then I setup Resco Explorer with the Registry plugin
I would install NetFront v3.3 for browsing (its already on my SD, so I personally skip this step)
Install TenGO keyboard
Turn off Error Reporting, Windows GPS control, and turn off the Security via the Security patch.
Install Widcomm Suite and the Wireless button.
Put TaskSwitch on my record button (acts as Alt-Tab).
Install my today plugins (PocketBreeze, Pocket Weather, iLauncher, and PocketRSS)
Copy my backup "Start Menu" (from a previous install to organize my startmenu into folders with all my SD card links)
Start putting in keys. Some previosly installed programs on the SD card will require activation again, some will not. I haven't gotten that down to a science yet, I just activate it as I use it (I have a text file of my registration info on my CF card).
Done. The whole process takes 20 minutes. I actually only install 6 programs from scratch into BIS. iGuidance, Netfront, all my games, etc, all run off the SD card from previous installs. Works great.
