Backlight problem

Has anyone had this difficulty: I go to backlight settings and make it to turn off at 1 minute. I turn the device off and back on. I check the settings and find that they revert back to 15 seconds. I'm using ROM A012. Anyone know a fix for this? Considering my previous problems with A012, this is a problem I can live with, but I'd rather not.

After changing, you have to wait around 1-2minutes (for the new registry to to be written into ROM) before you can soft-reset or turn off.
Hope that helps.

I'll definitely give it a try. Thanks.

Before you soft reset, wait about 20 seconds, put the axim into standby for another 20 seconds and then switch it back on and after that soft reset. It *may* help flush the values to storage properly.

zhaoyun - thanks for the link. I have not played with the registry yet so that looks a bit daunting.
It seems it is related to the spb backup/restore which I have just trialled. I was about to register it and will contact them to see if they plan a fix soon as they are, it seems aware of the problem.

This has popped up before. I think it is related to the backup software too but in my case I use Sprite. But if I hard reset and don't load anything, the problem goes away. Do a restore and it comes back. I also found that if you set it to what you want and do a soft reset with a program instead of the button on the back it seems to hold for a while. Have not found yet what makes it go back but am looking.

As I have said in one of my previous posts, I could not say it is spb backup who caused the problem, just that I think spb either created this problem or knows how to fix it. Of course quite a few of us having this problem are spb backup users, but I think it is rather a general backup software issue than a spb backup specific one.

I was also experiencing this problem, blundered thru the registry until I figured out this key:

HKEY_CURRENT_USER > ControlPanel > BackLight | BatteryTimeOut

when I changed the String value to 48, it will stay configured to stay on for 1 minute before shutting off.

Alright, I have an update for this. I reported this to Spb and they gave me a beta version of Backup. When it restored my system, it did not restore the password protection. So I set the password and after soft or hard resets, my timeout became 7 seconds yet again.

In the registry under Backlight, the LockLevel value was set to 1 and BatteryTimeOut was 7. This timeout corresponds to the timeout while waiting for the password to be entered. You will also see a value called SavedBatteryTimeout or something like that with your correct timeout set. In my case 120.

So, what the PW protection code is doing is saving your timeout and putting in 7 while you're on the PW entry screen. After that, it's supposed to swap back in your original timeout, but for some reason, it cant. I figured it had something to do with the LockLevel as has been mentioned in this thread.

So I did the following:

1) Disabled PW protection and did a hardware soft-reset.

2) Deleted the entire LockLevel *key* (folder) from the BackLight key and did a hardware soft reset. If you don't set a PW, the locklevel key will not be created after a soft reset.

3) Enabled PW protection again and did a hardware soft reset.

The LockLevel key has been re-created and the Locklevel value within is now 0 after soft resets as it should be. The timeout is staying at my set value of 120.

My backlight timeout has now stayed set for about 48 hours and through several software and hardware initiated soft resets. :)

Hope this is helpful and that it works for others.
