This has to do with reminder in ROM A12. Before the upgrade, everything works flawlessly (reminder that is). I install A12 and reinstall all apps again fresh so backup incompatibility is not an issue here.
The problem with A12's reminder is that if you set a task or appointment reminder, and the system is in standby, at that scheduled time, the PDA will come out of standby and reminder message/alarm will sound like it should. However, you can't dismiss the reminder message and the whole PDA freezes (at least for me).
Can you do me a favor and test it on your machine to confirm that the problem *is* a bug in A12?
Steps:
Go to calendar and set up a NEW task or appointment for today.
Under task name, put something there..like "test" or whatever.
Pick a reminder time like a few minutes from now so you don't have to wait long.
Now save that and exit out...you should see that task in your appointment/task list.
Put your PDA in standby mode (hit power button once to turn it off).
Now, after a few mins elapsed, at your scheduled time, the PDA should wake up and reminder message should pop on with alarm sounding...this is waht it is supposed to do.
There should be a "dismiss" button to clear out that reminder notification. Hit this button....For me, if I hit this button, my machine froze up and requires a soft reset.
Let me know if it works on yours or not. Thanks.
PS. Yes, I use memmaid, SKTOOLS etc to clear out all the appointment/task/blanks etc.. doesn't work....
Mine does not freeze. Everything works fine. It goes off everyday at 8:15, and at other times for meetings. Prior to the upgrade it would sometimes go off about 12 hours late, but it has not done that since the upgrade.
It seems it's caused by having a CF card inserted. Not sure whether it matters if there're data/apps on the card or not. I've tried twice working for several hours with the CF card not in the PDA, had no problems at all.
Further, it does not matter whether you have apps with "dynamic" data installed on the CF card (ie apps that display data on screen constantly and it possibly needs to be refreshed from time to time). I relocated all such apps to memory - didn't solve anything.
This happens to me in several variations:
1. After synching to our corporate Exchange server and disconnecting from the cradle (I always check that no sync process is taking place before I disconnect).
2. After I turn on the PDA (the power button is set to Full Power Off).
3. After a reminder pops up, sometimes I can't even dismiss it, sometimes immediately after I dismiss it.
After upgrading from A06 to A12 I reinstalled virtually all my apps, did not restore from a backup.

It all works ok for me. I have a CF card and SD card installed.

Just tried this on my X51v on A12 and it didn't freeze, I have a 2GB CF card and a 1GB SD card fitted. Dismiss worked as it should, the notification went away and I could then go into the calendar to delete the appointment.
Do you sync with an Exchange server? Or did you just manually enter appointments?
I have noticed that many times the PDA freezes after I turn it on (say after I sync, leave for a meeting and after a while I turn it on to see what's the next appointment).
Other times it freezes as I wrote earlier, immediately after pressing the Dismiss notification.
I thought all of this might be caused by some memory-resident app. So I uninstalled and reinstalled the following: Flexmail, PocketWeather, NewsBreak and TodayAgenda, and set them up so that their data directories would be in memory, not on the CF card.
I also changed the settings of PIE accordingly.
Strangely, I don't recall that this has ever happened while the PDA was in the cradle.
I have also tried 2 different CF cards, so it's not a problem with the card. It's also not a problem with enough free space on the card.
Please look up here in Aximsite a similar thread by MeSue and let's all try to make sense out of this.
I don't sync with an exchange server, the only thing I can think of is the fact that I've disabled activesync using the fake server trick.... I know it's not necessary but I don't like it running when I don't want it to.

I have the same experience. I have a X51V upgraded to A12 with a 8gb CF micro drive and a 512mb SD card both installed into my unit at all times. No issue with the appointment freeze up. Sorry for your problem.
My AS (on the work PC, which connects to the corporate Exchange) is set to Manual.
Besides that, since I connect to a real Exchange server, I have to define the real settings (ie I can't delete the server definitions).
