Exclamation Problem networking shared folder

Hello,
I'm trying to network my Dell Axim x51 using Resco explorer with a shared folder on my computer. Whenever I attempt to access the folder, it comes up with the following error messages.

Quote:
Action failed Cannot map network path. network resource cannot be found or you do not have permission to access the network. Contact your network administrator.
[quote[
Action failed Cannot connect shared path. The specified server cannot perform the requested operation.[/quote]
Quote:
Cannot find the file "\\" (or one of its componenets). Make sure the path and file name are correct and all required libraries are available.
Quote:
File Explorer network resource cannot be found or you do not have permission to access the network.
Does anyone know how to solve this? =\

Make sure you are actually connected (i.e., via wifi) and also that you actually have shared folders/drives. As well, try disabling firewalls.

I am connected, the shared folder has been set up and I do not have any firewall running.

Is the hope for this thing running a goner? I've tried virtually everything. =P

I'm having the exact same problem. All of that was done. No firewalls, my pocket pc can connect fine to the internet. I looked in the Resco FAQs and it said:

" I am not able to map a network drive and I suspect that the system uses an invalid account which I previously saved as the default account for drive mapping."

Exactly what I did. I put a "guess" password hoping it would work, little did I know at the time that was my only chance. This might not even be it but I'm kinda sure it's the reason. The 'solution' (or is it?) is to:

"The system will never prompt you for login and password again for this drive so you have to be careful when saving the proper account.

The account is not visibly stored. The only way to clear it is to convince the system of its invalidity. Disable the account on the source network computer (or in the domain). When the account cannot access the network, the system will ask for the password anew."

Ok. I can't disable the account in Windows XP Home Edition, as far as google/forum searching has told me. That's Windows XP Pro. What do I do here guys? I'm pulling my hair out. I can use Resco File Explorer to successfully connect to the downstairs computer and open/modify the files, but when it comes to connecting to my upstairs computer I just can't! That tells me the error is PC-side? Also that also tells me that the whole "invalid password prompt" thing isn't affecting anything. (Both computetrs have no passwords, something else is blocking access) Please help.

Are you sure that you are logged in with the correct user name for the netowork folder. sometimes it remembers your email log in or some other login. You may have to clear some caches and other clean up to allow the correct username and password to be entered.

It doesn't have a username set. I just right clicked a folder on my desktop -> Properties -> Sharing and Security -> checked "Share this folder" "Allow users to change my files"

I did that for multiple folders. Including C:\ drive.

Edit: To further diagnose this problem... I have reinstalled my ethernet drivers, disabled virtually EVERY firewall (including router) and enabled DMZ.

You don't log into your PC? If you have only one user and do not require a pass word then you do not have to log into the PC. Just use that login name with no password on the axim.

If you don't know your user name go to control pannel -> User Accounts Your single user will be at the bottom. You can enable guest but I don't think guest is allowed to share by default.

Yeah I do login. I didn't put the correct password for the prompt on the device and now it's gone... I don't know how to get it back (the prompt.) Also that "IRSstacksize(SP?)" registry change thing didn't work. I put it at 14.

Just playing with mine. If I put in the wrong password the password screen keeps comming back. Once I put in the correct password I can not get back to the password screen.

One PC here I cannot log onto, I get the above cycle. Here is the kicker. On the PC I am using I mapped a drive and put the wrong password in on purpose to see if I could get in your condition. It took it and connected! Now it won't come back to the password screen, but I mapped the drive. unmapped and mapped never asked for a password again.

I have XP Pro, but try going to the Local Security settings -> Local Policies -> Security Options check Network access: Sharing and security model for local accounts - set to - Guest only - local users authenticate as guest

Can you unmap the drive then try again?

I'm not able to map it in the first place (on the PPC) I will attempt to unshare/unmap all folders on my desktop and try again.

Edit: @ benots4 thanks for your help in assisting me in troubleshooting this. [Gigi too! ^^]

*important* edit: Ok, new update. I unchecked all the shared folders, a few are still accessible and lots still exist but are unaccessible (even from my old computer name after constant restarts) When trying to connect to some of the folders that seem to be from my old computer name I get the error " \\GHOST\ is not accessible. You might not have permission to use this network resource. Contact the administrator of this server to find out if you have access permissions. The network path was not found."

Edit Edit Edit: =X After remapping / resharing the folders, same thing persists.

No problem.

One last thing. On the PC I could not map here I found there were no shares on it. So I set one up. back on the ax I mapped the drive with no login and password and it worked jsut fine.

My experiments seem to indicate to me that you are having a permissions problem on your PC. If the login was wrong it would reprompt.

You could try setting up a new user on your PC and adding a share then trying that. I've had some problems before. XP got real funky with file permissions and made it dificult to tell who has them. See if you have everyone full permissions on the shared folders.

All for now.

Doing exactly that right now. And before only account on this computer was the administrator one, I recently re-enabled the guest one to try and help connect.

Exactly. I'm 100% sure there's some setting that needs to be altered on my PC here that will grant my poor little Axim access to it. Every other computer in the house is able to be connected to by the Axim just fine via Resco's map drive.

Oh and...

Update: I created a new administrator password-protected account, created a folder, threw a file in it and shared (right click -> propertied -> sharign and security -> share this folder) it. Turned on my Axim, opened up Resco, it found GHOST but same exact thing happened.

Here's another pretty picture:
