Aximsitex50icon Axim x50v lack of ROM updates, Want to be heard?

I just posted the following on Dell's "new" blog site as a suggestion for one of their articles:
"There have been 11 updates to Windows Mobile 5.0 on the Axim x51v. The current ROM version for the x51v is A12 as of 7/25/06. This ROM includes several updates including Microsoft's AKU 2.3 with additional bluetooth profiles.

There have been a total of ZERO updates for Windows Mobile 5.0 running on the Axim x50v. There have been quite a few problems reported by THOUSANDS of users that have upgraded to WM5 on the Axim (a paid for upgrade of $50 by the way), and yet there has been no definitive news from Dell on updates for the x50v.

Personally, I had always thought that Dell was waiting for AKU 2.0 to come out so that they could implement Microsoft's Direct Push email for WM5, but that has come and gone a several months ago with no updates from Dell.

What is Dell's response for updates to the Window Mobile 5 installs on the Axim x50v?"
Maybe if everyone posts something similar, we will get some definitive answers that we all need. The site for making the suggestions can be found here:
http://www.dellone2one.com/
Go to the menu on the right and select suggestion box.

A few suggestion of mine. No cursing, No saying how bad Dell is/has been on this issue, just state facts and that you are looking for answers. Being disrespectful will not help in getting something like this resolved.

I personally believe that dell has just swept X50V support under the carpet. It's been a very long time since the last rom upgrade :(

As has already been pointed out many times, the x50(v) hardware just isn't able to run WM5 because of the flash ROM technology used. Dell really couldn't fix this even if they tried (they don't it seems - but they couldn't either).

Here's: http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=130456 a tutorial on what you should do on your WM5-upgraded x50 in order NOT to suffer from filesys.exe much.

Alas My X50v is out of warranty and I don't hold much hope of this situation changing as I went to the dell UK website to purchase the WM5 upgrade CD and it's no longer for sale :(

I think upgrading x50v rom for wm5 will not available,

given 2 choices, I'd rather choose to stay X50v (wm2k3) than x51v (wm5), perhaps I'll wait for WM5se or WM6 or Vista mobile

..waitaminute, Vista Mobile? ..nah

Even HP have updated the WM5 on the hx4700 in the last few days, and we know how little they update. I think my old HP2100 had 1 maybe 2 updates in it whole lifespan. So another poke in the eye for us X50v people.

I am trying to keep my two machines X50v and X51v in sync. So I have not loaded the A12 ROM yet. Both machines are under CustomerCard the X50v has almost 2 1/4 yrs left where X51v as 1 1/2 yrs left.

It is time that DELL lives up to the promise of CustomerCard and offer the next upgrade for the X50v or they should plan for the immedate replacement of all X50v under CustomerCard program.

I would noy be heartbroken at all. IMHO you dodged a bullet by not having spent $40 on a coaster. I've come to accept that WM2003 SE is a pretty stable OS for my x50v. Don't worry, be happy! :)

I don't mind change as long as I'm not around when it happens.

I am quite pleased with WM2K3.2 on my X50V and quite disgusted with Dell for keeping my $50 for an essentially non-functional upgrade; Dell should have returned my $50 already.

i think that dell has completely avoided the issue. no public announcements of updats (or no updates) and, if they have decided not to update it, then they should give those who purchased the update at least a partial rebate or discount. this is beginnning to get ridiculous!

It does make me wonder tho how HP were able to drastically improve WM5 on hx4700 especially filesys.exe assuming hx4700 also uses NOR ROM.

You are only a consumer-unit, measurable and valued only for your monetary-unit-outlays.

Vote with your monetary-units.

Dell currently sits at negative fifty monetary-units in this consumer-unit's accounting. Which means that any future possible Dell product must be less than the competition's product by fifty monetary-units to be even competitive.
