I saw an official statement from Dell saying they were phasing out their Axim Series. They will continue to support it until 2009, but the X51v was the last model they will manufacture.
So sad... :(
That does make me rather sad also, Hopfully by then I will have a tablet(forget this converged Phone stuff, give me some power and UPMHHH in my handheld. I want the Corvette of PDA's!)

No, because there are enough axims still out there to keep this going for years to come. I have had my X5 for three years. I guess anything could come to an end but I would not worry about it for a while.

I have both an Axim X51v and a Sony Vaio U50 (one of the first "UMPCs"). Which do I prefer? The Axim, by a large margin. Why? Built-in bluetooth, and it does everything the Vaio does, except print and run Windows XP [programs], and it fits in my pocket. If it doesn't fit in any of my gigantic pockets, it's a dealbreaker. Oh, and did I mention my Axim cost less than a quarter of the Vaio? Well, alright, after accessories about half as much. But still.

Well, that's a personal decision, but as someone else noted in this thread, by the time you're looking for your next PDA the marketplace will have changed.
I saw an official statement from Dell saying they were phasing out their Axim Series. They will continue to support it until 2009, but the X51v was the last model they will manufacture.

There have been no official statements, only rumors. I and others are trying to extract more information from Dell, but until they say something definite, then things are pretty much the same as they were two weeks ago, or two months ago.
I noticed about 6 weeks ago that Dell doesn't have PDA's in their Sunday circular anymore!
This has been noted in another thread--it seems that they've pulled the Axims from advertising in the US, but they remain in fliers for other countries. It's most odd.

I think this is a pretty exciting indication of what is to come in the future. I can see the ppc replacing the desktop/laptop, just stick it in your docking station and work with the big screen and full size qwerty.
The ultimate demise of the pocket pc is not too far off. I just think the software was never quite where it needed to be to become a killer app. Or maybe it's just too small to be practical. I'll always love my axim though
Now I'm not pulling any legs here, but I do have an OQO 01+, an x51v, and now a Sony UX180P (now discontinued already!...but for the upcoming 280P model).
If there is anything you'd like to know, please ask. The OQO is pocketable, and is the regular 'go with me' device. The Sony is a little too contoured, as well as physically larger (despite the 4.5" vs the 5" on the OQO).
I have always loved my Axim, but with the smaller XP machines...well, except for battery life (which is increased to several hours with double-capacity batteries), the Axim has lost the battle with these two, for me. Instant-on is always nice...but coming out of Standby mode is nearly equivalent...and out of Hibernate mode (plus no 'real' battery drain) is just several seconds.
