O_O *is about to drown in a pool of drool*

And her eI thought my X50v had awesome hand held specs! I am deffinatly getting that as my next upgrade (excluding a possible X51v when WM5 screws me over) by that time it will have become affordable (kept my X5 for 2 years, only upgraded bc I needed more power and internal WiFi - the X5 still works fine))

I gotta ask though, What's the resolution like on it?

((and as to the guy asking about the size, There was an insert about it in a magazine that had a photo "acctual size" and it's apparently only about an inch larger than the X50v in all directions, still pocket-able (though case will increase size, I'm sure) I set my X50v atop the picture to check the comparison)

I decided when it was time to upgrade my laptop earlier this summer that Dell didn't have anything I wanted. For some reason, I convinced myself that I wanted a convertible system, and not one of those LARGE convertibles, like the Gateway I saw in Bestbuy with a 14" screen :)

Ended up with a 4.5 lb Toshiba with 12" 1400x1050 screen. Only downside is that the text is a little smaller than is comfortable at times, which may be why I can't seem to find it on sale anymore.

But it is too large to act as a replacement for a PDA. Won't fit in my pocket.

I may end up in a Treo in a year or 2 when my Dell gives up the ghost. I ended up replacing it twice under Warranty before I got a good one, though the Treo is just slightly too large for a phone for me.

very nice unit but as usual Sony prices are absurd..$1800...I am sure there is a big market for that

As people start going MObile(Laptops and UMPC's) the price will drop. Now it is just as easy to get a notebook as a desk top, so I think many peolpe will make the change the next time they upgrade there computer.

I have used a Dell axim x51v for 8 months now and love it, but no phone. So I now have a cingular 8125, windows mobile 5 and phone. Problem, no wifi in phone, have to use cingular data services. Dell could repackage the axim with a phone and partner with a cell provider and what a killer product that would be. This appears to me to be the only future for the Axim.

The full-size PDA/Phone was tried a long time ago (I think with a Palm III(?) with a cellphone chip and speaker/mic on it) and if I remember correctly, it did not sell very well... People want tiny phones, which do NOT make for good PPCs likewise people want large screens on their PPCs, which doe snot make for a good cellphone... The capability is not the issue, it's the form factor. You'll notice the Vaio UMPC does not advertise itself as a cellphone, that's because Sony KNOWS nobody will want to use it for a phone bc of it's size. Despite it having the hardware inside to easily perform as a cell (skype anyone?). I dont see a true merger of PPC and Cellphone. I see PPC dieing out, perhaps, but Cell's will never be as powerful as even an X5, I expect (unless it's because of an advancement in cellular-radio tech that requires it) because their promary function is a cellphone and their primary feature is their size.

So many good products just vanish becouse no one can be botherd to use them as ment, throw them away and do without, erricson chat board still not quite replaced these years on, for example

When i first had my Dell X30 it crashed couldent find the wi-fi (becouse there wasent any!!) now i have a wi-fi finder, extra batterys and soft reset when carried in a bag without the case!! A 1 giga SD card and regular updates for worry free use

Now,just this summer more and more really useful FREE soft is to be found and useful paid soft as well not just for business.

With memory prices as it is and so small we could have an X30 with 6 gigs or 1 gig when useing battery the 6 gigs being an option or acssesed to load an application on the energy saveing 1 gig chip there are lots of things dell could have done.

When travelling it wonderful to wonder off to a cafe find a wi-fi and be at once online, discreat fast and easy to carry. How many will carry a large camera becose its better than the phone cam???How many missed pics?????

WM5
Wifi B/G
bluetooth 2.0
SDIO (works perfect with 4GB)
GSM Unlocked/unbranded cellular capabilities
EDGE
2MP Camera

and soon the HTC Artemis will blow everything away since it will add GPS to make it a true all in one device

hell even the JasJar has been out tons of ppl use it. the jasjar has a vga screen and dual cameras (one for video conf one for pictures)

Very soon there will be a new voip network that will enable wi-fi phones or naturaly the far superior Dell with its 624 processor to be effective telephones.

All the PDA phones are really not very good PPCs just note pads with a phone.

The new network will deliver very high speed broadband as well (ive been reading about it!) http://www.xgtechnology.com/prnewsitem.asp?id=1

When my X51v gives up the ghost, I will probably go back to HP. Had the h5555 before. Loved it! I am hoping to get at least a couple of years out of my 51v.

Just to give you examples, the Cingular 8125, E-Ten, i-mate Jasjar can do just about anything you normally do with your X51V . You can browse the internet with them, listen to mp3, watch movies over the network or via memory card, use them as GPS navigation, play games and a lot more. They are definitely NOT just note pads with a phone.

But the JASJAR is twice as expensive as the Axim, it's the only VGA model, and none of those devices has a CF slot, 3D accelerator, video decoder, 624 MHz processor, or many other nifty toys.

You forgot to mention about VGA-Out support (or is it considered with "the other nifty toys"). If you read my post again, you'll notice that I made no reference to cost or feature comparison between these ppc phones and the Axim. That is obviously not my point. While all you said are true, these devices too have features that the Axim doesn't have such as built in GPS (E-ten G500), built in camera and a minimum tri-band phone. My point again, if I haven't gotten it across, is that these devices can do just about anything we "NORMALLY" do with our Axims, such as the ones described on my other post. The post I just made (before this) is to prove to the person I quoted that ppc phones are far from being a notepad with a phone, which she claimed they are.
