Aximsiteactivesyncicon BSOD when trying to synch x51v via IR

Pulling my hair out on this one.

Axim x51v and getting a BSOD when trying to synch to Dell Latitude D610 via infrared. The error is: stop 0x0000001E, kmode_exception_not_handled in msircomm.sys.

I've searched around here and via Google to no avail.

Some other info:

- Windows 2000 Professional
- This used to work just fine on a previous laptop; when I got this new one about 3 months ago, the problem happens every time I try to connect via IR. (Synching via USB works fine, but I loved the IR -- no cradle to lug around!)
- I've just installed ActiveSynch 4.2 hoping it might help, but the exact same problem.

Any advice???

(Note: I posted this in the ActiveSynch forum as well -- newbie so not sure if this is kosher or not?

Never mind (sort of). I went through my BIOS boot options for the umpteenth time. I had confirmed that the IR and serial ports were assigned differnt com ports and IRQ numbers, and they were. So out of desperation I just disabled the serial port. Voila! I can now synch again via IR. Since I rarely/never use the serial port this isn't a hardship, but I'll be damned if I understand this problem.

Anyway, perhaps this will be a useful fix for someone.

Does you laptop have BlueTooth? If so, I think a BT sync may be faster than IR.

Well, turns out the problem is still here. I did get it to successfully synch yesterday after the serial port disable so thought I was good to go, so I calmly tried to synch up today and bam -- BSOD, same kmode_exception_not_handled error.

So I'm back to the start -- anyone know what causes this??

Have you looked for a BIOS update for your laptop? The issue could have been potentially found and fixed by dell.
