My mom thought I was crazy for getting a $400 gadget to help with my "schoolwork" and "organisation". Sure wish she were more like you in the get-my-son-cool-gadgets-department.
V rocks!

ok, who was it that wanted me to adopt them?
I have long suspected that my son was switched at birth and replaced by a child who is absolutely nothing like me in any way shape or form...
today it is confirmed!
I broached the subject in a sly manner then a more direct way when he didn't get what I was talking about
He basically told me not to waste my money because of his history with electronics oh yeah, he's already killed a desktop and two laptops... did I forget to mention that?

So I'm off to Crazy Eddie's World Of Slightly Used Socks first thing tomorrow!

be sure to get the weardated ones and the lloyds wrap around for accidental coverage -- and charge them to you platinum credit card for the extra insurance.

PS: I have a couple that were switched at birth, too, but we love each other anyway and every once in a while, I learn something. Have fun with your son and get the v for yourself!

cheers

I think either/or...

You can get the V and he will reap of the benefits, or you can get it a step below and he will still enjoy it. He is only a kid in school, he won't know the difference.

However, I do think you should spend a little extra on the warranty/insurance. Since he is in college, it could be dropped, stolen, misplaced, or fried on a saturday morning. That is where my money will be at. In my three years of college so far, I have gone through 4 pda's; two palms and two ppc. The pocket PC's lasted me the most.

I was gonna say, get him the V and if you have to have it replaced due to something he does, trade them out. Sounds fair to me, but I guess he doesn't want an axim anymore? Why would you NOT want something like that?

You stated your son being hard on electronics, I can totally relate to it. So this is my advice. It would be wise to invest in a warrenty plan. I opted for a 2 year warrenty and the best thing about it is that even if I'm a bit neglectful Dell will replace it no questions asked. A second thing to invest in is a shield for the screen. I reccommend invisible shield. Not only does their product live up to their claims (I did my own testing!), it's guarenteed for life (with free replacements of faulty shields, in which case I still have my original shield going on 8 months with no scrathes).

As the comparison between the 51 and the 51v. I as a student enjoy the VGA quality screen since I can view many PDF's with much more ease then in qVGA. I literally download all my Texts in PDF format and using adobes free PPC reader I can easily say that my x51v has saved me from hassling not only my laptop at times but the many books I need to do my courses. Not to mention that WM5 is much more stable then WM2003. But that's my opinion.

If you really want to look for a good deal on an Axim, I recently purchased two x51v's for an equivlant 250 US each, both with limited warrenties from Dell in fairly good condition (just a small unnoticable scratch on each). If you were to call Dell and have the warrenties transfered into your name (arrange this with the seller if possible), I was able court the fair lady at Dell to upgrade the warrenties for me for a reasonable price :).

So there you have it!!! I hope I've been helpful.
