I have in my Dell cart at this very moment an X51V 624 MHz for my son's 20th birthday that's coming up very soon. With all the discounts it's going to run me $433.40.
My question: does a junior in college really need all these bells & whistles or should I step down to the X51 520 MHz? The cost difference isn't all that much, honestly. He is a math/computer science major after all.
I suppose I could give him my X50 and take the 51V
OK this is the part where you guys tell me what to do
Not sure about the numbers in your neck of the woods... but unless there's a lot of difference i'd go for the V. However if the V didn't exist loads of people would be raving about the 520
(of course whether he gets it is another story)

Well, I'm thinking that since he's such a big gamer the VGA would really please him. When I give it to him (no matter which model I pick) I'll give him the standard Mom speech about it being for organization and school but I know better! :p
I guess I just wanted some feedback from real owners to help me make my decision. Thanks, all :)
I just got my x50v off of ebay and I've loaded it up with all of these goodies. I really like it and he probably will enjoy it too!

I would give him my x50 if I were you, but he might think that is tacky. If I were you I would love the upgrade but I don't think that it is tastful to give your son your old PDA just because you want a new one.

Buying is alway full of regrets. If you buy the cheaper one, you get it home to find it is a piece of crap and the wish you would have spent the extra money for the more expensive one. If you buy the more expensive one, you ask yourself what you spent so much money. You're gonna have regret either way. SOOOO....
Splurge, buy the best you can afford. After all, you know the old cliche, "you get what you pay for." So got get the V.

Not all of the cheapest items are bad.I have an X30 low and it is great!(I run it with the processor at 208 megahertz and it works fine (usually).
I'm still living down last Christmas when I gave him my old digital camera after Santa brought me a new one
And then there's his laptop from HS graduation... I tried to save $$ by not getting the internal wireless card & DVD burner and we ended up getting them later on anyway
This young man is VERY hard on electronics, however. I've literally lost count of the number of headphones & game joysticks he's wrecked from sheer neglect. The DJ mp3 player I got him for his birthday last year was trashed by Christmas.
Now that I think about it, I believe I'm just gonna get him socks!
