Problem is that brightness settings are not saved. X51 fires up with "Dim if device is idle for more than 15 seconds." I reset it to 15 minutes, but next boot it has reset to 15 seconds.
I have the same problem. All I did to fix it is to hard reset and restore from backup. Another workaround is not to turn on auto dim. Every time when I turn that on, it will reset to 15 seconds when your power off and power back on. I alos look at the registry, it is set to 7 seconds. But the brightness interface display 15.

Thanks for the reply!
I didn't know that the registry could be accessed! Can you tell me how?

Does nobody have a good workaround for this? I think this is a pretty serious problem... It happened to me somehow in the last couple of days, and I don't know how to get rid of it...
Is this a case of the registry not being really "updated"? How about if you make the change and then do a full power off (not just a suspend like you would normally see)? eg. I've set it so if I press and hold the power button, it will do a full power off (completely turned off, i.e. it takes a while to turn back on, almost like you did a pin reset).
Hi applejosh, this is not related to the registry, but to the fact that suddenly the x51v is changing the dim time to 15 seconds every time you switch it off and back on... very annoying as you can imagine...
I suspect that this is driven by some application that changes the value when you switch on, but I don't know which one...

Actually he might have a point. The setting is probably saved in the registry and for whatever reason it may not be getting saved. Doing a full power off would flush out the setting and re-read it from what is saved. Also are you possibley using something like Todaywarrior or some other software that might overwrite the setting?

Well, it sounded related to registry since someone mentioned in the second post that they saw that info there. Have you tried it before completely discounting the thought?
Hi again applejosh, don't misunderstand me... I really appreciate your help!
In the meantime I already tried your suggestion (doing a full power off), but when I switch the axim back on, the setting is back to 15 sec...
The only thing I changed on my axim recently, as far as I remember, is that I started doing scheduled backups with SPB Backup (I had the program before but was only doing manual backups). I tried switching off the schedule, but that doesn't seem to work either...
Has anyone having this problem tried setting a more conventional time to see if it would stick? Maybe there is a bug or limitation that translates 15 minutes to 15 seconds? What happens if you set it to say 5 minutes?

Good point, but I always put it at 1 minute... and it brings it consistently back to 15 sec, which is the lowest possible.
One thing I have seen is that in the registry, under the LOCAL MACHINE keys, the dim time has a very big value (and meaningless for me), but changing it to something reasonable like the one you see in the CURRENT USER keys doesn't seem to solve the problem either.
