x51 any good for watching movies? or x51v
heya, thinking of purchasing an Axim in the next few weeks, but I need to work out which model. x51 (slow), x51 (faster) or x51v?
I want it for mainly watching divx videos. Will the x51 suffice or do I need the graphics accelerator of the v?
cheers,
Andy

definitely get the X51v, I use mine to watch 24 and its great..
i would recommend getting a screen protector to get rid of the glare
also, if you're lazy and don't like to convert video files to appropriate resolution before you transfer to memory card, consider buying a large SD card

Go with The X51V for the VGA, Faster Processor, Better Vid card and WIFI. Also a great program to compress movies for playback on X51 is Fairusewizzard:)

I got test with hi resolution divx video,
My 312Mhz x50v/x51v* is smooth playback than 714Mhz (o/c) X50/x51. Save my batteries :)
*the VGA one come with vga accelerator

It's awsome video quality if you convert the movies right, you can even get a DivX movie that is about 90 minutes down to 250MB and still good quality.
As 111222 said, you should also buy a screen protector.. but dont do what i did.. i kinda destroyed mine the first day and now i got a little annoying bubble in the corner!

Go with the x51v. I'm running a 6gb microdrive with TCPMP player, I currently have Benchwarmers, Superman Returns, five episodes of the Oblongs, and five episodes of the family guy on my 6gb microdrive. I love my x51v!!!

Yes, go for the V, also the hardware acceleration of the intel 2700G processor is much better.

Another vote for the V. I compress videos to around 600mb using Nero recode and play on TCPMP. Works great on the 8GB CF card I usually hold around 3 vids and a few thousand mp3s.

It makes a divx/xvid (.avi) file from dvd sources..
TCPMP will play almost everything on the X50 v without any problems.

Download FairuseWizzard, you can compress movies to any size, in just one easy step.I choose 250mb and can put 4 full movies on just 1gb card. And it is free, then playback using TCPMP player, which is also free, Links to both in my MYPDA:)

Admittedly, I've never used a PDA with a VGA display, but I have watched movies in my X30 with a QVGA display and found it to be perfectly fine. What's more, the lower resolution yields smaller file sizes, so I can put two full length movies on one 512 SD card. Someday I'll move up to VGA, when my X30 dies, but I'm happy with what I've got.
