Palm OS Emulator

I will be receiving my new Dell Axim x51 520mhz tomorrow and I was wondering if there are any good Palm OS emulators availble (ideally for free, but willing to pay); the only one I know of is "Style Tap". I have a tremendous amount of medical/healthcare applicatins on my Sony Clie that are still not availble for PPC and I would really like to continue using these programs and it seems my only option is an emulator. Any info regarding this (ease of use, problems, suggestions) would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

StyleTap

StyleTap is the only one I am aware of. It's not free but it is pretty good. The only thing I really hate about StyleTap is it's font it uses to display everything. And it has PalmOS 4.0 styling - looks nothing like 5.0.

But it adds icons to all your Palms programs to your Programs folder, and it automatically launches ST. It will probably most likely run your medical programs.

I have no idea about emulators but would like one as well so keep your eyes open.

Go to forums at the top and go to forums home and find the category you want to start it in and the click new thread at the top of that category page.

Does your entire handheld look like an Palm display? For that alone, it would be horrible. I guess, my quiestion is...does every display on your handheld then look like you are using a Palm OS device or is just when you activitate that program to run those programs?

If you use StyleTap you bring it up in a window and it shows the Palm programs that you can run. I had MobileDB running on my Clie and I was able to use it and the DB's on my x50v with the Palm MobileDB program running under StyleTap.

Only the Palm programs running under StyleTap look roughly like the Palm screen. All other programs run in the normal Pocket PC screen.

It does the job on the Palm programs I have used with it. But it lacks in looks.

Thanks for the clarification, I most likely will obtain this program as developers for certain medical software have stayed loyal to Palm OS or the software is old but still very good and no longer being produced for Palm OS and stopped production prior to the surge of PPC. Some of these programs are are not necessarily essential for me but help a great deal so I will bite the bullet on the looks of it. Thanks again. :approve:

Styletap is terrific. Granted, the programs I use it with were originally written for the earlier Palm OS (4.0) but it runs flawlessly.

Highly recommend

download the demo first, and try it with your apps... it's pretty good. But there's no conduit support.

The StyleTap website also lists supported and unsupported programs.

Although I don't think anybody updates since most people have reported that they haven't had trouble with any of their Palm OS programs.

Also, you don't have to run StyleTap before launching the Palm softwares. You can just tap the program you want, just like normal, and it will launch StyleTap automatically. Nice feature. :approve:

With launching StyleTap though, it will show just your Palm softwares so you don't have to wade through all of your programs to find the one you want if it is a Palm OS program.
