Unable to synch and no programs listed under "Remove Programs"

I was synching fine until about 2 1/2 weeks ago. I'm using Activesync 4.2 on my Axim X51v with WM5. I'm using a USB connection from my desktop (windows XP Professional, up to date), but haven't been able to sync from IR either. The error message I receive tells me to run the "Help" function for Activesync from my desktop and this tells me that I'm behind a firewall via Norton Personal Firewall, which I don't even have on my system (I'm not behind a firewall).

Concomitantly, I noticed that there are no programs listed in the "Remove Programs" folder under Settings on my PDA, when in fact I had about 20-25 programs listed. All of the programs are still installed on my PDA and are working fine. I still am seeing all of the programs and their install/uninstall files listed under C:\Program Files\Microsoft Activesync on my desktop PC and my device is listed along with all of the documents under my "Profile" in the Application Data\Microsoft\Activesync\Profiles under C:\ Documents and Settings.

I tried a complete install and uninstall of Activesync and all of the associated personlaized folders several times, but I still can't synch. Has anybody heard of this or have any ideas?

Sorry to reopen an old thread again but I found a solution for my add/remove programs list being empty and thought I would share it for others that are searching for a solution.

I downloaded and installed the free version of SKTOOLS (the Lite version) and ran the "Free Up RAM" first followed by the "Auto Clean!" and in the "SKTOOLS" program itself I used the "Clean!" option (allowing it to get rid of everything - duff registry entries etc). By the time all this was done my add/remove programs list was back to normal. I am not sure what fixed it but I suspect it was something to do with the registry cleaning.

I hope this helps someone in the future.

For information, I was not having any problems syncing - just the empty add/remove program list.
