Switched from Dell Axim X50 to Verizon Wireless XV6700
I've been using my Dell Axim X50 for the past year and half and have been very very happy with it. After a Cassiopeia E-100 and Toshiba Maestro (both of which I thought were excellent), my Dell Axim X50 was the ultimate PDA.
Unfortunately, carrying an e-mail device, phone and pda was getting out of control. I saw the reviews at howardforums.com for the XV6700, tested it at a verizon store and then bought it. It's not as fast as my axim and the screen is noticeably smaller, but it does everything I need it too.
Well, I'm now another casualty in the Converged/Non-Converged PDA debate. Blackberry's and Treo's have been around for a long time. Why couldn't Dell have put out one of these things?
The issue I have with me getting what you have is I really use my X51V as a Pocket PC first then as a PIM device. For my use the X51V fits perfectly into my needs.
My 6700 is first and foremost used in the same manner I used my X50v: scheduling; book-reading; contact management; and for playing backgammon and other board games. Occassionally I use it for recorded files. Secondarily I use it as a phone. On top of that, it has been surprisingly convenient being able to snap photos with it, as well as low res video. Don't mistake the 6700 for being a smartphone - although the screen is slightly smaller, it is primarily a Pocket PC and secondarily a phone. :)
I took a look at the 6700 a couple of months ago myself. Can't quite go for it yet. I'm too used to the X50 as-is. It doesn't bother me (yet?) that my phone is a separate device.
I was at the Alltel outlet today checking the same unit. How is the WIFI reception?
The reception is pretty good - I have not checked the actual signal strength in dB but it usually has one less bar than the 2200b/g in my notebook. I have been able to get onto any network my notebook has so it hasn't hindered me.
I think it's pretty good. I've been able to connect to my router from a distance of 40 feet away (and through one wall) and surf the internet or download files at the same speed that I was getting on my X50.
I'm also pretty happy with the battery life. I bought the 2200ma for my Axim which allowed me to go 2.5 days of normal use with some wifi. So far, the 1350 battery the 6700 came with allows me nearly 2 days between charges, and that's with using it as a phone.

I picked up an el-cheapo extended battery off of ebay for the 6700 for around $20 and it has been fantastic so far. It makes the device much more brick-like but I use it as a backup. I also purchased a $16 aluminum case which is opened at the back for the external battery and it works like a charm as well. So far the accessories have been cheaper for the 6700 than for the Axim (if you know where to look to find them and don't mind getting OEM stuff).
Nope - haven't overclocked it. I haven't seen any reason to because it has been fast enough for me and I have wanted to preserve battery life. If I were doing more gaming or movie watching on it I might but for now I am content to use the glyphcache tweak and be done with it.

Have you tried overclocking the device to 520 or 624mhz?. I've done it but it seems to make the device warm by the battery area(which worries me)
