I seriously want someone with extensive knowledge to figure out how to enable the internal usb host chip functions and allow the axim to use it. That would be awesome. I know it can be done, but its most likely too expensive to be worth doing. It would still be nice for someone to try it and let us know on the results.
The Aximizer is for me one of the most incredible accessories for the X50v/51v and i couldn't change anything, Very good work Afarre.
I tried to make one little jacket to carry one Iomega 1.8" hdd connected to the Ratoc USB host card, but seeing the fantastic Aximizer i'll try to put inside the jacket one 4 port USB slim hub, the serial port, the VGA out, the USB client connector and one USB CF reader to connect my 4GB Microdrive (the card reader will have one on/off switch to connect one external drive, because of the one only drive limitations of the Ratoc card), leaving four external clips to hold the Iomega HDD.
The audio preamp and the 12v power supply aren't necessary for me, because i'll use an external battery or one 2A car charger to give all the power they need.
My biggest trouble is where to find the schematic of the PCB where the X50v connector is solded for wiring all the cables. I work in a PCB factory, but is impossible for me to design the PCB, however if i could have the PCB design i'd begin the production of the PCB's. Can anybody help me?
How about TV-out?? Has no-one mentioned this yet? I know that it has VGA out capability however it'd be cool to be able to watch your Axim media on a TV.
Cheers!
P.S. I think the 'Aximizer' is an awesome name for the device :approve:

Khris, a bit much for the average person, but many people say "If I only had xxxx on my PDA, I wouldn't need to carry my laptop around". Now, they don't have to!

I'm by far more than an average user, so please don't assume.
I realize that this is exactly what a large portion of Axim owners are/have been looking for, and for those people that's great.
I was simply stating that I would never use such a product as I find it too large and bulky. Also (to make things clear otherwise I'll have people jumping down my throat), I have nothing but respect for the designer as he has obviously spent many hours in developing/testing.
Hi
This is a very kewl tool but I would like to have access to the Mic Line in from the headphone jack... Can the builder please include a "line in" jack that I can plug into? I would prefer a 1/4" jack wired to accept a guitar input, switchable to also be a Mic imput - (not a cheapo headset mic - but something like a Shure SM57/58 mic) - it should be Hi-Z/Lo-Z switchable.
Maybe other people would like a 3.5mm jack.
For me, that would top it off completely.
I would also probably want to re-add a CF slot to the thing, since the Axim's CF slot is lost to the USB host, maybe a new one in this cradle to replace it would be nice.
Why dont you also just add a GPS circuit inside the Aximizer?
Might as well go ahead & make another larger dock the Aximizer can plug into -for home use that has built in speakers & power - like the Ipods have.... to round off the MP3 player/ Home Theater market.
These are all things that I would actually like to have - if it existed ...
I dont believe most people would really need the serial port, that should suggest a couple sets of options can be made available.
Aximizer for A/V, and Aximizer Industrial purposes (with serial port)
I'm sure I would spend maximum of $199 Canadian, so I would end up with nothing but the CF USB Host anyway!!
Any more than that & I'm looking at dedicated audio equipment or a Tablet PC. Sorry, Cost-ineffective is most likely market research result of all this,
so just sell the kit & parts is probably best for a money-maker.
Please dont make IKEA-style instructions!!!
I would buy one from you right now that only has the Video out, Audio out(3.5mm), Line-in (mic) & power.
For a line input you'll need to add a 20-60dB attenuator (a simple couple of resistors would suffice, but a variable (res +potentiometer ) would give you more control).
[edit] (Sorry if I misled you)
I've just measured the axim again:
The mic input has a minimum input of about -46dBV (mic gain maximum) so you'll probably need some more mic gain for the Shure with vocals or acoustic guitar.
The Shure's a LoZ mic, so you may be able to get the voltage gain you need from just a mic transformer (a typical transformer will give you about 20dB)
I'll see if I can find the time to draw up a circuit diagram for you.

You got a good extended answer from Bill_Todd about mic-in.
The short answer is: Axim alredy has a standard mic-input.
I suppose there should be some different impedance between a standar mic-input and any other audio input of a standard audio amplifier.
From this point of view a small circuit could be added to convert Axim standard mic-in in standard aux-in.
BTW it seems to me a very particular requirement, but interesting.
Besides that, if matching impedance circuit cold be passive (not powered), it could be hosted inside an external wired adaptor to ¼” jack. This way you avoid building a so big female inside Aximizer. I t seems to me a very clean solution.

Right, I also miss an extra CF slot. I would probably add a GPRS to turn my Axim into a “pseudo” Smartphone. I suppose it is possible because I have seen some CF devices that provide another CF slot. But it sure will complicate Aximizer a lot.

I know it is just my point of view, but here I have to say I hate built in GPS devices because it limits locating the device wherever you want. If GPS can have external antenna, wiring antenna still can be a big problem.

I wanted Aximizer to still be called handheld, I hope I got it.

Well, one of the main porpoises of Aximizer was providing connectivity to all Axim available ports. I used serial port for car interface diagnostics and some other applications. Some people tried to connect a serial external touchscreen…

Sorry I do not build more Aximizers :hide:

I used to use a couple on small transformers to connect my philips portable CD player to the car radio because the CDP 9v power input caused allsorts of isolation problems.
I've just listed a couple suitable of transformers in the other thread.
