Password screen

I recently purchased a X51V and for the first couple days the password screen worked as I thought it should, when I turn the PDA on I am asked for the password and only then. After a couple days when I turn it on I see the usual windows screen. If I go to Lock and check the Prompt box and select either 0 or 1 minute and go to any program or the window screen after 1 min of inactivity the password screen comes up, the same thing happens if I select 5 min. Now if I turn the unit off I must leave the unit off the amount of minutes I selected in the Lock screen to be asked for a password otherwise no password is requested upon turnon. If I am asked for a password and then go to Lock I am asked for a password again. I am really new to PDA's so any help would be appreaciated

Ah yes. The difference between "Off" and "Lock". As best as I can tell, then only time when "Off" = "Lock" is when the setting is set to "Zero".

Update...I spoke with Dell support and they say Microsoft designed Mobile 5 this way.
