Downgrading WM5 to 2003

Hey,

I posted a thread awhile ago about how my Dell doesn't boot up, and I think my only option is to go from WM5 to 2003. I read the tutorial on Image Flashing (I can't boot so I can't sync a new Image the normal way) And I was wondering if the Dell downgrade file, located at http://support.dell.com/support/down...?fileid=151787 , has the nessesary files. I noticed it has a BL folder, seemingly containing the WM5->2003 bootloader, and the English folder, seemingly containing the image. Can I just use these files? And if so, do I need a CRC and where can I find a CRC for both of these images?

Thanks alot guys, I can't wait till my Dell is working again!

-Phil

I have an x51v that I would like to downgrade to 2003 since 2005 is not supported as far as I know in Linux in any way. Does anyone here know if this is at all possible and if so how to go about doing this without turning the unit into a doorstop?

I'm quite sure a lot of X50V owners would trade you for your X51V. This is the best way to go about it because 1. nobody has ever done what you are asking , it's improbable, and 2. The X51V has no internal battery, without persistent storage, it would be like doing a hard reset everytime your battery loses it's charge or everytime you change batteries.

Wow. I sure didn't think of that. Even if it was possible, that's a real show stopper.

I did find this " http://www.synce.org/index.php/Windo...e_2005_Support "so I may just try and make this work. Sure wish MarkSpace would get on the Linux bandwagon.
