Had my Axim X51v for just about a week now, an' I love it to bits :approve: but it's got some "interesting" features, so was wonderin' if anyone has got any ideas/info on some of them:
Screen orientation - you can switch the screen around under settings, but there's no way to put an icon anywhere to do this. I tried a couple of reg hacks (from wiki.xda-developers.com) but they didn't work. Is this possible?
Synching Stuff - Has anyone noticed that if you delete stuff on the Axim (e.g. a note) it deletes it off the PC when synching? D'oh! I was wondering if there was a way of making the synch one-way for specific items (e.g. 2-way for email, 1-way : PC -> Axim : for notes). I'm probably being a bit dumb about how synching works though :P
Alarms - I set a weekday alarm to *try* to get me up in time for work. Only prob is, the alarm sound volume is linked to the global volume, and can't be set independently. Or can it?
Also, anybody have recommendations for any freeware utils or similar (yep, I'm too lazy to search)?
Anyways, just a couple of things - not life-threatening (unless I can't hear my alarm and oversleep!).
If you aren't going to be using voice recorder on a daily basis, you should reassign the voice recorder button to screen rotate. Sometimes VR gets pressed accidentally, and you end up with a lot of "blank" audio messages, so maybe you will want to do this anyway.
Drag a copy to a separate folder. Call it sync backup or something easy to remember.
Can't. Maybe drop in a .wav file that has volume maxed out to give it a little boost and use that for alarms. I use a Star Trek red alert siren; it really stands out.
Cheers Brainy - good tip about the VR button! Do you remap with a utility or just hack the reg?
Alarm sounds - Yeah, I thought about boosting the volume for specific sound files - might do that as a workaround if nothing else comes up. I suppose I could buy a util like spbTime, but I'm such a cheapskate...
Oh, something I forgot to ask - is there a way of changing the system font?
On the sync question. You will have to use a helper program to do that. Mobsync allows you to specify any folder or file on your ax and your pc to sync together. You can decide what to do with deleted files like put in recycle bin on the pc or a specified folder on the ax. you can also decide whether it is a one way or two sync. There is a beta version that is freeware. The developer has just released a paid version.
I'm sorry. Search is indeed your friend. The resources (thanks to aximsite members) are too extensive to list in one thread. Check out the stickies at the beginning of the threads. There are several that are devoted for excellent freeware. There are also paid programs that folks wouldn't live without. So pull up an axim, set a spell and enjoy. aboard.
