BIS is wrong

Does anyone know why my X50 would tell me that I only have 30.64MB of Built-in storage when it should be around 64mb?

It used to be correct.

I have tried everything I know or have read to do including a back up and hard reset.

Any ideas?

Thanks!!

Perhaps BIS is being reported correctly and your PDA either has some "stuff" there that you have not found or has some bad memory?

Have tried the aborted, hard reset trick?

Make a full backup - just to be safe.

Then do a hard reset, BUT when asked to proceed - then abort the process.

Careful now :p

Zaniax - Just tried the aborted hard reset - no results.

AKAJohnDoe - I'm pretty sure the the BIS is wrong since I bought the 64mg built in storage. It says:

Built-in Storage
Total storage card memory: 30.64 MB
In use: 2.54 MB
Free: 28.10 MB

Thanks anyway for the suggestions. I'm stumped!

Sorry to hear that -

In the meantime I've read some of your other posts, and it seems that you previously had some problems with the memory.

Has this problem been fixed ?

HHmmm, now I'm puzzled...

I don't think I have posted with other memory issues. But who knows - with three kids - I may have and just forgot.

Anyway, no, I have not found a fix to this problem yet. Still searching.

Ok -

I use a fine little freeware utility 'Where is my RAM?' - WIMR - to check my system.

I found it here

http://mypaq.net/mobilesoft/wimr/

Before you go hard reset - give it a try ....

ah, thanks for refreshing my memory...

There was no memory issue. I'm not really sure why w3iner answered me like that. I had a noobie question and got an off the wall response. In that particular post I asked how to get rid of the "new" button at the bottom of the screen. I know it was NOT a memory issue so I just disregarded his comment.

Ohh ... I just read through all your previous postings - actually somewhat fast.
Reread the thread - you're right, sorry.

Did you try WIMR ?

Installed it this morning. I really doesn't show anything unusual. Just all of the stuff I know is there. I don't see anywhere that it might show me total amount of memory - like a status bar. Maybe it doesn't have such a feature.

Thanks for the advice...

I'll just keep searching

I have Resco File Explorer and Sprite Space Detective, both of which will show a total. The file utility that comes with WM does not seem to have this basic function. Perhaps the PDA could be explored from the PC while cradled and the file manger on the PC would show this?

Ok, I downloaded Resco's File Explorer and it says the same thing as the ppc. BIS has 30.64 MB total space.

I do have the option to reformat...should I? I could certainly reinstall the few things that I have on there.
- vBar
- x50 Mix
- Pocketbible
- Freecell
- Pocketsudoku

Also, is it possible to have bad sectors like on a desktop hard drive?

Eric, I guess it is possible but it is over half of the total memory that is gone. Also, I am pretty sure it was correct before.

I'm late to this discussion. I am assuming that you are saying that you have a total 30 mb then it goes on to tell you what you have used, ie 24 MB or something?

Has this device been hard reset before? when you hard reset, the programs that were loaded in BIS are not erased. They become unusable beause the markers to them in the registry have been erased. If you use file explore you will see these extra files. Maybe these extra files have become hidden. Perhaps the 30 is what is free.
