Worried Improve wifi reception?

I have an Axim X51v and I often receive a "poor" wifi signal when near an open connection. Is there anything I can purchase that will strengthen the reception such as an antenna, and if so what is the best thing to buy? Thanks.

2 things to try:
1. dissable "power save mode" on your wifi card--- this will increase reception, but it will drain your battery
2. a LOT of people have used the cellphone "antennia boosters" which look like a metal sticker (sticks to your cellphone under the battery) and I am told have increased their range of Wifi/BT by as much as 1/3. I personally have not tried it, however, so this is just hearesay...

mobile phone 'signal enhancers' (the things you stick to the back) do not work. They are passive, and so obviously can't enhance your transmission range, or magically strengthen the signal and redirect into your axim case. They are a successful gimmick.
