Screen crash when turning X51v on - though no WSOD

Hi all,

more and more often I experience a serious 'bug' with my Axim X51v, which I can only describe as a 'screen crash'.

When I turn on the Axim, instead of showing my the usual screen, there are only black and white stripes all over the display. The white ones fade away in seconds, leaving me with a completely black screen.

It seriously looks like a hardware failure of the screen. Note that it is NOT the infamous "white screen of Death (WSOD)" ; in which a nice, uniform white screen is shown. I have experienced that too....

The 'solution' to this is to do a soft reset. Usually I'm lucky, and the Axim starts up normally. About 1 in 10 times, the 'screen crash' occurs. At the same time, all this makes we wonder whether the problem is really hardware related.

Does anyone recognize this problem?

I experienced the same thing with my x50v that I sent back to Dell when they replaced it with a x51v(wm5 issue). It would happen now and then but not often enough for me to be concerned with it. I would do a soft rest and it would function fine. Occasionally it would happen after the x50v had gone to sleep, when I woke it up.
