I've got a X50 that won't boot up, it has WM5 on it, which it apparently shouldn't, and the only way I can fix it is to flash the old OS back. I haven't been able to hunt down an X50 WM2003 as of yet, and I was wondering if this process you suggest might work on an X50 IMG as well. I would imagine it would, and I'm not losing anything by trying it, my PPC is broke as it stands.
If you have an X50 nbo, please let me know!
Otherwise, let me know if this process of IMG -> NBO might work for an X50 and I'll give it a shot.

Thanks,

-Phil

I confirm that A12 upgrade is PC dependant

I recently purchased a x51v. As I played with it, it freezed because of incompatible sw (ozVGA with old dlls) loading. But before that phase I was also facing that famous non working hard reset problem. So the machine turned ot to be a brick. By use of this very useful SD image method it started to work.

At this point I tried to get rid of this hard reset problem and all weekend I tried to upgrade it with the A12. I tried tens of times with my HP NX7010 and Dell 700m laptops. Always after the first hard reset I got stuck.

I even formatted the 700m; and with a clean windows xp and activesync I was one more time unsuccessful.

Today at work I used my HP desktop; in the first try after the first hard reset it failed to recognize the USB device and in the second try I DID IT.

I am a new Axim owner; but also an experienced PPC user. I confirm that upgrade is PC dependant. So if you fail: Try to use another PC.

And as the final comment: I bought this machine by looking at its specs. I thought that it was far better than all the other machines; but I am very disappointed with DELL support

Hi,

I'm trying to reflash X51v which is frozen in the blue Dell logo screen, I've downloaded X51v A12 rom image & created a Rom.nbo file & a Rom.crc file , but have questions regarding X51v bootloader & final step about hard reset:

1) per Domme's tutorial, there should be 4 files put on SD card:
Rom.nb0/Rom.crc/Bootloader.nb0/Bootloader.crc
Just wonder how can I generate bootloader files for X51v as I don't have orig. installation or upgrade CD from Dell. also how can I tell which bootloader to use (aku1.1 or aku2.3.1?) is there a link to download bootloader file directly?

2) can I just use the bootloader files for X50/X50v(from Domme's tutorial thread)? do I need to change anything? (file name/value..etc)

3) for those of you who have reflashed successfully, the last step of hard reset is to press (power+reset) or (wifi+pwer+reset)?

Appreciate all your input/help!

As far as I'm aware, no one has been able to extract a boot loader for the X51v yet. I'd be very cautious about using the boot loader from a X50 model as if it doesn't work (and there is a very good chance it won't), you device will be totally bricked. As long as your device has a boot loader you can at least load an image from a SD card, but if you screw up your boot loader your device will have to go back to Dell for repair. You can try asking over at the xda-developers forum for help with this, they are a bunch of smart guys over there, and if anyone can figure it out for you they can.

As to the final hard reset you just press power+reset after the SD image has loaded.

If you are interested in my ROM tinkering experiences have look here:

Cheers
Mark

You should not play with the bootloader, that 's the best way to definitively brick, your machine.
You just have to load the proper rom depending on the bootloader that is already on your device.

Great!

Changed spanish A01->EnglishA12. :yeah: :yeah:

X51v A01 Spanish crc: 1468E194

and I also learned that file names are case sensitive:

*.CRC is not the same as *.crc

thanks a million for this site and this thread :approve:

I have followed these instructions to attempt to fix my Axim X51v. I used the tool (thank you!) and created the nb0 file and CRC file from ROM A12. It flashed just fine, indicating that it was done. It then indicated that I should hard reset it, so I did.

I cannot get it to complete the hard reset. This is the same trouble I had before. How long should I be waiting (waited at least an hour, and tried the flash again successfully, but still at blue dell screen)? I stuck it in the cradle just for kicks, but since it is stuck at the blue dell screen after the hard reset, not much is going on.

Any suggestions?

I ran the diagnostics and my Axim passed as far as hardware is concerned. Oddly, though, it lists it as being A04 of both the SD-Flash and Diagnostics screen, even though I had flashed with A12 - though I did not complete a hard reset.

I don't know the history of your device but it won't boot if the image doesn't fit the bootloader.

Hi,
Did you create the checksum file and copied to the sd card? You need to have both image and checksum files to be present on your sd card before entering the bootloader mode. Check the first page for details on how to create them. If you have these files, check the names, maybe you misspelled one.
