Ipaq 4150 to Axim x51v

My Ipaq is messing up...keep getting "battery dead/low" msg. I have replaced the 2.5 yr battery with a new one and still get this msg. Even after I take the Ipaq off of the charger so there must be some kind of short in the Ipaq. Soooooooo, I am looking to upgrad to the x51v (probably more PDA than I need but I get an Employee Discount @Dell so I can get one for $374).

I want to know what steps I have to take to go from Ipaq to X51v w/my software. I use Pocket informant, PhatPad, Excel and that's about it. I'm a self employed contrtactor and put lots of measurements and notes from jobs onto my PDA. I'll also probably start to use it for pictures to show clients also.

So, I know I'll have to load WM5 onto my lappy and load the other programs onto the x51v. Anything else I have to do? I use Outlook as my email client. Is there already a thread on this...if so could someone point me to it?

Thanks for the help,
Pat

Hi pat,
Here's a thread regarding wm5 software compatibility. http://www.aximsite.com/boards/showthread.php?t=98578. You might get a little disappointed with the battery life since you're moving from an Ipaq 4150, so invest on a backup battery. The other features however will make up for it. Welcome to Aximsite and goodluck with your purchase.

Thanks, Yeah I've heard the battery sucks. I'll get the 1800 mAh from Aximcases.com, it's pretty reasonable. Thanks

If your main information is in Outlook (e-mail, calendar, contacts, Notes, Tasks etc.) then an upgrade of the ActiveSync to v4.x is needed on the PC. Do this before connecting the new device. Then everything will be synced to the Axim.
Excel files will be synced as well to the PC.
Programs will need to be re-installed.

Very good advice from Jordan Chris. A lot of people are having problems making AS work after pluggiug the X51V first so follow his advice to install AS fisrt before putting the X51 in the cradle to avoid this potential problem.

p.s. The redundancy of this post is to stress it's importance.
