Aximsitex50icon X50v w/wm5 revert to 2003se or upgrade to X51?

I am new to this site. I purchased a X50v with Bluetooth GPS used, without doing a lot of research. The price was too good to pass up. I've used it a few times and am not impressed with the performance at all. I have used an HP with 2003se and liked it. I have read that you can change back to 2003. Are there any tricks or do you do it just like it says on the Dell page? The battery life is horrible with nothing running and with it turned off it might last 24hrs. I bought a new battery today and will see how that works out. I have considered buying a new X51 and selling the X50v, because I am not that computer savvy and just want a reliable system. Can I get that by changing it back to 2003se?

WM5 wasn't designed for the X50/v. If you reload one of the WM2003 ROMs you should be pleased with its performance. WM2003 is stable and reliable and performs well. I wouldn't drop the bucks on a new machine when you can just retool that one back to 2003.

I didn't get the disk with it, but I saw on the Dell page or on this web site that you can change it back. Do you need the disk if you do it that way? Can you just buy 2003se like Windows XP or something like that? Are there any tips or tricks to installing 2003 or do you do as directed by the software? Thank you for the help.

It is free and you get it from the dell web site. Just follow the directions and you should be ok. Keep in mind that you will be doing a hard reset and will lose all the data and doing a backup will not help you since you are changing the OS. But hopefully you have the licenses for anything you have loaded and can just load them back once you have completed the 'upgrade'. I got my x50v working pretty well under wm5 but I think that I was lucky and that most of them don't work very well but they do work great under wm2003. good luck. look around on this site for a lot of hints before you undertake this.

sell your x50 and get another device thats suports wm5.0 fully... ie an eten m600+ :-) hehehe, or get a VGA if you have to, I personally didn't mind going from VGA to QVGA when I got a massive increase in speed & Battery life.
