Question HP 4705 or 51V?

I know this is an Axim website, but which do you prefer?

I recently aquired an HP 4705 and upgraded it to WM5 immediately. I also purchased a brand new in box 51V (damn eBay and buyers credit! ). Which should I keep?

I know the HP is much bigger, has a bigger battery, and a much crisper screen, but the Axim will have a warranty. (I may still be able to extend the HP warranty since it expired today).

If you can afford to, keep them both - each has their strengths (4700 is the screen and standard battery, x51v's is the size and power-saving modes combined with an extended battery make it quite usable for a variety of apps).

My choice

I just sold my 4700 and bought the x51v. Much happier with the x501. As stated above, the standard battery and screen is better with the 4700, but overall, I like the x51v (had my 4700 for over a year). Besides, WM5 runs much smoother on the Dell than the 4700 upgrade.

However, I believe that the 4705 is built with WM5 in mind, therefore memory mapping would be better than 4700.

I understand that the HP is almost double the price of the Axim. If I have paid the HP at the price of the Axim, I probably would keep the HP4705 and give the Axim to a family member. It's a tough call!

give one of them to your little bro or something, so u can swap it with him when u don't like it.
with pdas, u really need to personally like the 'feel' of it. everybody in the world can say x5 is an outdate piece of junk, but if you are happy with it then who gives a crap about what others say?

The price was right for the 4705---$220. It included a travel charger, an HP bluetooth keyboard and an aluminum case (which I hate since EVERY aluminum case I have ever used ends up damaging the PDA itself). HP will extend the warranty for another $150. The PDA is in PERFECT condition-not bad for eBay. It is now upgraded to WM5.

And no, I can't afford/justify both. Honestly, I can barely justify keeping one.

Wow, that is a very good deal. Before I bought the x51v, I was hunting for the 4705 on e-bay, but all ended up with $500+. I broke down and bought a Palm Lifedrive, then back out of the deal and got the x51v instead.

I gathered you already have both PDAs. Why don't you install the applications and tools you use often, play around with them, carry them around all over the places for a couple of weeks, and see / feel which one you like the best? Just like ppt said, if you like it, who cares about what other says. (Sort of like buying a car...test drive them!)

I am leaning towards the Dell because of its size. Once you put the 4705 in any sort of case, it become tooo big. I'm just afraid of Dell's incompetant 'tech' support people and the problems with the latest ROM upgrade.

I went with the hx4705 for the slimness and screen, it feels really good in my large hands. After playing with a x51v at school I am quite sure I made the right decision for me. It si my opinion.

There are absolutely no differences between the two models in this respect. (Please also see my hx4700 & WM5-related articles on this; for example this.)

That is, they run WM5 equally well/bad.
