Share an Internet Connection on a Laptop with a Dell Axim Via Bluetooth

I have followed the tutorials and can still not get it to work. I get to the stage where I create a connection to connect to the Internet via my laptop, but when I try to use that connection, it does say Im connected and then it goes to the user name and password screen.

I figured it was like remote desktop and needed to connect to a password protected account on the laptop so I created one for it. Then I go to the next stage and it pops up saying something about Connecting with Bluetooth Null Modem but it doesnt let me on the internet.

I've tried getting on the internet through active sync but the active sync version I have doesnt have the options in the tutorial, and when I tell it to connect through different com ports it doesnt find anything, it just says some are available and unavailable...

Please Help

What Axim model? What ActiveSync version? Can you connect to ActiveSync? If X51, what bluetooth stack are you using on your Axim? What bluetooth stact are you using on your computer? Insufficient data... can't compute... TILT. Just kidding. Welcome to Aximsite.

Is you're using ActiveSync version 4.xx, internet passthru is enabled by default. Works with the microsoft stack and widcomm. If you can get your Axim to connect to AS then chances are you will get internet connection. Rarely do I see posts claiming that they don't have internet connection when they are connected to ActiveSync (ver . 4.xx). The tutorials on how to connect to Activesync in this site is very good. Basically the Idea is to assign a com port from your computer's bluetooth serial port to AS. See image below.

Another way to connect to the internet is by using the Personal Area Networking profile. You don't need ActiveSync for that. If you have the X51 and the default microsoft stack that came with it, then forget connecting via PAN. PAN is not supported by that sucky stack. You need the Widcomm stack to get PAN to work.

I compiled a set of pictures on how I set up PAN and internet connection sharing from my computer. If you're interested in setting up PAN I can send them to you.
