Choppy display, tearing when scrolling/watching movies

Hey all, just wanted to see if this is normal and if not, how I can fix it:

When I'm scrolling quickly through websites, the screen is VERY choppy and there's a lot of tearing of the image. This is exactly what happens on a PC when there's no video drivers installed. It happens to a much lesser extent when watching videos.

Am I missing something? Or is this tearing common?

Two questions: What are you using to browse webpages or watch video? Also, what programs or Today plugins do you have running in the background? I see the odd bit of weirdness on webpages, but that's usually an artifact of NetFront not handling large pages too well - if you scroll over, then it doesn't redraw the page correctly, at least not always.

Opera for web browsing and TCPMP for video.

It seems that every time I scroll, it redraws or reloads the page. Especially on message boards such as this one or Futuremark.

This could be a "feature" of the processor scaling down to conserve power. As it slows down more cpu intensive things take a short moment while the cpu speeds back up and so can look like it is slow of buggy.

Go to Settings -> System -> Power ->Processor and set it to Maximum (though it's best not to leave it on this setting as it wastes power and Auto is usually best) if Opera seems to go perfectly then you don't need to worry about the tearing, just call it a "Feature" ;) The X51v is still a very memory and processor limited device, and is nowhere near as powerful as your desktop, though it is probably one of the most powerful of it's class it can't be expected to do everything perfectly.

TCPMP is another thing entirely, check in the preferences that 2700g acelleration is enabled...

Well, I've forced it to max speed and it's STILL choppy and tearing.

I'd suggest reinstalling TCPMP for the video problem then - also, what programs are running in the background (Today Panel applications, skinning programs, etc), and is it installed in main memory or on a storage card?

Actually, the "problem" with TCPMP is nothing. It appears to be fine.

As for the internet, well -- nothing is running in the background. Everything is default. No Today apps, no skinning, no nothing, and it's installed in main memory.

I've found that regular PIE is smoother than Opera. The "desktop" or "normal" view settings are much less choppy than the "fit to screen" settings.

Have you tried SKTools or MemMaid to see what processes are running in the background? I don't have this type of issue, not yet anyways, but that's probably due more to the fresh hard reset and reinstall I did a while ago.

Try PIE instead of opera and see if it works. I had problems with opera and uninstalled it. Went with PIEPlus and everything if fine, also did fake server trick.

I tried PIE Plus. No different.

Those memory utilities aren't free, so I haven't tried them. Besides, what could be running in the background that I could actually disable?

Dolfan: Most of them have trial periods - I'd suggest using them to see if you've anything else in the background (example: I've found Resco Explorer sometimes doesn't exit, and vanishes from the task managers I've used... but shows up in the process list) that could be chewing up CPU time, since if it's affecting multiple programs, it's got to be a CPU issue.

There are a lot of things you could disable - various startup items, for example, which may not be showing in the system tray. Also, my next suggestion is to see if the issue persists after a hard reset - it could be there was a program that didn't uninstall properly.

Dolfan, take a look at Hibernate. Link in MyPDA. Oh, and turning on the anti-tearing in TCPMP seems to help other programs too...
