Any information disclosed prior to the exchange of a signed NDA is yours to do with as you please. When you are presented with an NDA it is simply an offer, unless you agree to it in writing there is no binding agreement.
The wording in the NDA paragraph implies an agreement has been reached. But, without any actual signed agreement, they have to rely on good will. My assumption is that the NDA in this case is expired. My "tracking" conjecture is merely a bit of random, academic thought brought on by the two combined factors. :-)
Interesting, and not surprising. The PDA market is being overtaken from below by the convergence market, and from above by the UMPC standard. While still a distinct niche, PPC will continue to lose ground. My theory is, the death knell will be a use of flash memory to hibernate a UMPC device, facilitating rapid power-on like our PPC's have.
does this mean that added/extended warranties are not valid?
On the contrary, I believe that it implies that they will, in fact, honor extended warranties that they will issue for as long as the warranty is issued for. It would be interesting to see whether they would replace an X51V unit (assuming fully covered non-functional unit) with a UMPC if they ran out of X51V's....
Wow, I'm so glad I came here to share information with the community and got slammed for it. :rolling:
Sorry I'm not on top of every single thing in the Axim world.
God forbid I were to actually as for help with anything!
Hey Drew just tell them to go fly kite.
To all those that slam others for reposted info , or stuff that has been made into a sticky, hey go use the search etc etc....
Maybe that user didnt see that it while searching or maybe he has more info to share. or they didnt like what info was posted before hand and is looking newer info etc etc.
i did not know about this and how serious it was, i came across this thread by using the new posts link, so if he had not posted it me and maybe alot of other would not have know about it or alot of other info that is reposted.
So if you have seen the subject before and hve nothin new to offer, just move on to something else rather then beat on the user who posted it.
I'm with benots 4! While it is a shame that Dell is getting out of the PDA business, our Axims do everything that they have always done. If you want the best--an Axim x51v is still the best in many respects and will probably continue to be the 'best'--for what it is--for awhile yet.
If you want native VGA out, relatively high speed, and awesome storage (cf and sd), and that is your high priority, (rather than phone, native gps, native usb host, etc.) at a great price, the Axim continues to rock!
Personally, I'm hoping to milk my Axim x51v for two years or so and hopefully by that time the bumps will have been worked out of the umpc, (and/or in my opinion) the converged telephone product will have become even more awesome and will by that time have overtaken the Axim in those areas that are important to me.
When I switch from Axim 2 years from now: Great storage (like Axim), instant on (flash memory) like Axim, VGA annnndddd TV out, (I don't ask for much), battery life (like Axim). Durability like Axim. Size like Axim. Hmmm. and to make it worth my while to upgrade/switch, GPS and a snazy camera 4mp that alas, my trusty Axim doesn't have. At an Axim price or perhaps a little more.
If they WANT/instist to throw in a phone, (Though I'd rather have USB host), then that's OK by me, though I doubt I'll use a phone much.
This is exactly why I bought my X51v with a three year warranty. I will not purchase a converged device. I also own an iPAQ as a backup. I'm the chief engineer of my company and can't get away from the phone they gave me. I get calls all hours of the day and night. Therefore, I refuse to own a personal cell phone. Further, I have to wear reading glasses to see two feet in front of me (I can see a gnat at 500 yards). So, for me, converged device screens are too small, but even if they grow in size, I think it's silly to purchase a phone/PDA where the phone will not be activated.
With my Ax, iPAQ and warranty, I'm good for another three years. By then I'm sure there will be a suitable cell phone free replacement.
Dell currently offers other PDA's now, and it claims it will offer PDA's in the future...just not Dell branded. The Axim is simply an HTC rebrand. It could be that Dell will still carry an Axim-like device that is made by HTC next year. The main difference is it would be an HTC name plate.

my thoughts exactly.. just thought that people figured this already... guess not

Dell is transitioning away from the Dell branded PDA product line, aka Axim. At the same time, Dell plans to expand their offerings for PDA devices manufactured by other parties.

Hmmm, so much for that WM5 firmware patch for the X50's. Thanks Dell!
The post I made was from an e-mail forwarded to me from my procurement department as I make some, but not all, of computer-related purchasing decisions not only with Dell but Lenovo, HP, and Lexmark as well. I removed the signature from our Dell rep and any reference to my company as well but I am not under any NDA agreement that I am aware of. I am not a daily reader of Aximsite but come here 1-3 times a week depending on work.
This is a great website and I'm sure has been a help to Dell in selling some Axims over the years because of the wealth of knowledge here. I was mearly trying to help the community here with information not all may have. I was asked by someone from this site to forward them the actual e-mail but I'm not sure I should. Rest assured the only information I removed was my reps name and my companies name.
Do what you will with this information but I see no reason to believe it is not genuine. I have no plans to sell my x51v but I'm not sure if I didn't have one already if I'd go out and purchase one. If you read the MyPDA I have you'll see I have plenty invested in my x51v and I'm very happy with it. I'm just not sure what I'll buy the next time I have to replace my PocketPC.
Oh, and I agree with someone else's post I really don't want an all-in-one phone device until the day they have a battery that will really last 2-3 days of use.

That's why pointing out their existance is a good idea
And nobody slammed anyone, He just took it badly
