416mhz version, no wireless?

I definitely saw wireless wifi as part of the feature set. Yet in the manual of the 416 X51 I just got says under contents and accessories:

axim x51 -

624mhz, wireless, bluetooth
520mhz, wireless, bluetooth
416mhz, bluetooth

No wonder I can't get my network set up. Where the hell is my wireless? I know I saw it on the feature list.

I don't think you did... although Bluetooth doesn't use wires, so that is a 'wireless' technology.

It definately doesn't, and doesn't claim to have built in wifi as standard.

but the bluetooth thing could confuse some people

Wow. That's just deceiving. I feel bad for the Dell rep I'm about to talk to.

Well I don't think it is decieving... so go easy on the guy. Unless you have proof of Wifi (not wireless) it is ultimatley your mistake, and not theirs.

I have other things I could flame Dell for... but this isn't really one of them

If I can find an insanely cheap CF Wireless Card, I'd just go buy it and keep my mouth shut.

And yes, it's deceiving. I was told wifi = 802.11B Wireless. Period. Done. So when I saw Integrated Wifi Bluetooth I thought it was telling me wireless + bluetooth integrated. AHHHHHHHHHH.

Where can I get a CF wireless card? I'm lookin at staples, circuit city, wal mart, nobody has them online, and I will either bitch at dell tonight or find a cf card tonight. :realmad:

where did you see 'integrated wifi bluetooth' on the 416 model?????

if you can find it in writing, then you have a legit case... if you only think you saw it then you don't

Fair enough... If you're unhappy, i'd ring the Dell rep and send it straight back.. or at least get him to do you a deal on the 520.

Of course it doesn't say 802.11b anywhere on that page but Dell is certainly misleading calling it "Integrated Wi-Fi Bluetooth" since WiFi is a designation for 802.11 technologies.

I assume by CF LAN, you mean CF WLAN (CF LAN is somewhat inaccurate since it could lead someone to give you a link to an ethernet card). You don't want to pick up just any WiFi card. The only ones I've seen reported to work with WM5 are the Ambicom and Socket CF (I'm not sure all the models from these companies work - they each have both B and G cards) and the Socket E300 and Spectec sd cards.

Get a screen print of that page, then call up Dell, be nice, be courteous, and be respectful, and ask for a return, or better, an even trade (or a deal) on an upgrade.

That is quite misleading, I'd definitely contact them about that. Wi-fi and bluetooth are certainly not the same - Bluetooth is not for connecting to WLANs and is IEEE 802.15.1 whereas Wi-fi is IEEE 802.11

Two hours of bitching and I got no where. I started off being real casual but they just kept feeding me the same trash over and over. Then I finally told Sedyuoni Rawat that I'd like to talk to his supervisor.

Turns out the best they could do for me is return the original Axim, return my money in 15-20 days, and me place a new order.

My parents are helping me out though. I just bought the 520mhz version (which is on sale for 300, not bad) and I'll pay them back this week when I get my check, then just wait 15-20 days to get my other refund back.

I told Mr. Rawat along with his supervisor that it was ridiculous that they put WIFI on the spec sheet online when it indeed had no WIFI. I'm going to continuously contact them and tell them that until I see it removed from the web site.

Oh, also, I paid 16 bucks for next day shipping. I ordered it a few moments ago (about 830 pm). Will I get it tomorrow?

Probably not. Most places have a shipping cut off of "early afternoon". Even if they were located 3 hours "behind" you, that would be 5:30pm. I would GUESS you should get it Wed or Thurs. Did they give you a tracking number so you can follow the shipping process on-line?

Tomorrow? If you are very fortunate, it will not be "delayed" and will ship on Thursday. Best estimate of doorstep presence? Monday.

Ah well. I picked up the 520mhz version on Dell's site for 299. My buddy was looking around and he found the X51v at saveateagle for like 360 or so? I wasn't prepared to pay 60 bucks more, but I wasn't sure if the warranty covered over at sites like that. I even checked ebay and amazon.com and the prices were still kind of high, so I just went through dell's site again to get it this time, like I said, at 299.
