Other Axims' profiles no longer recognized by Activesync

Ok, here's the problem. I purchased a new Axim x51v because my X5 has been having that touch screen problem that I may or may not be able to do anything about. Anyway, I rec'd my new device and tried to get everything up and running. After having hardware issues and receiving a new one I tried to start again. I was able to connect to Activesync 4.1 (from the enclosed disc) once and loaded up some programs (they all worked-so that wasn't the problem). However the next time I tried to connect I was unable to. After trying several things (including re-installing programs and also a hard reset) I decided to uninstall 4.1 and install 4.2 (from download). During the uninstall the computer asked whether I wanted to delete my profiles (or something like unto it). I said no because I have my old X5 and my husbands X3 that we synchronize with our computer. After installing 4.2 I then tried to synchronize my new X51. No problems any more. Unfortunately, I can no longer synchronize with the X5 or the X3. Those profiles no longer show up under listed, selectable(?) profiles on 4.2. They are still on the computer and still have synchronization folders on the desktop. One of the strange things is that they will connect as "Guest" with programs listed under "Add/Remove Programs", but all boxes are checked and grayed so nothing can be added or possibly removed from the list. Also, under my current X51 Profile there were no programs listed at all, even though many of the programs used on my X5 and X3 were valid programs for the X51 and had showed up under my original X51 profile. I have been searching the forums for a way for Activesync to "re-find" my profiles, but so far I haven't found a link. When I had first tried out my original X51 (that I had to send back), all three profiles were on Activesync with no problems in that area. I have tried to find a file that I can put my other profiles into so Activesync will recognize them again, but so far cannot find it or a reference for it on any forum or through any search. Please help. I really, really do not want to re-build the profiles and go through possible hard resets or whatever to get 2 additional Axims to synchronize again. My other devices have been working extremely well for the last couple of years, so it has been a number of months since our last backup.

You can check this on teh internet but I thnk I remember reading somewhere that ActiveSync version 4.2 and maybe 4.1 aren't design to work with older devices.

Okay, I think I have gotten it figured out. I decided to do whatever was necessary to get synchronization back. I started with my husband's X30 since it had fewer programs installed. After I put it on the cradle Activesync starts to open the dialog to either set up a new partnership or sign on as a guest. I selected sign up for new partnership. It requires the automatic deletion of any partnership on my device and sets up a new one. I chose that option with synchronization between only 1 computer. Activesync sets up a new partnership with a new name and asks if I want a synchronization folder to be set up on the desktop. I say yes. After Contacts and Calendar, etc are synchronized with my desktop and everything on the device appears intact I disconnect the Axim and decide to see if I can change the name of the synchronization folder to make it easier to identify the device as my husband's. I changed the name on the folder on my desktop and then reconnected the device. Amazingly enough, his device connects to Activesync using his OLD profile, the one I had wanted in the first place. I checked everything and it appears just as it should. Well, I decided to see if that same procedure would would for my device and connected my X5. My old profile immediately connected without any additional action required on my part. I can't explain it, but all connections are now working as before with my old devices and my new X51. Thanks to all who read about my dilemma and at least tried to think of anything that might have worked.
