I'm wondering if someone can offer any thoughts on this. In the past, it seems that when Dell had an update for the Axim, it would involve a whole new ROM update, unlike desktop updates which just add patches when needed.
Recently however, Dell has offered small patch updates, CAB files, which you just run directly from your Axim. They literally take seconds, and so far, these updates seem to be easy and seemless. Two recent examples are the CF port update, and the WIFI update.
If this is a new direction, I'm impressed!
Now, if there could be something like a Windows Update, that you run directly from your Axim, that would be awesome. Or, even if you could simply browse to a Dell update site from your Axim, download the CAB files directly, and go from there, that would be nice.
It's not really new. They did this quite a few times with the X5.
I'm only guessing but maybe WM5 provides an easier way of doing this than WM03/WM03SE did. It certainly requires less server space and bandwidth for people doing the downloads.

Could you guys link me to where you are finding these updates? When I go to Dell's site, the only updates I find are for: GPS, bluetooth keyboard, and the ROM update to A12. Thanks.

For some reason, I find that if I go to the Drivers and Updates section and select my device and operating system that it doesn't present me with all of the concurrent updates, such as the ones you all mentioned in this thread. However, when I perform a site search using keywords such as "dell axim x51v" and click on "Drivers" in the left navigation section of their links, that I can find many more updates.

Here's the link to the external mic update (I had saved it to "My Downloads" so I was still able to access it).
This is a "Patch to fix External Mic can't record issue." http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=176710

Dell Axim X51/X51v WiFi driver update
Fixed issues:
1.Roaming between APs sometimes is not seamless.
2.When the number of neighbor APs exceeds 16, roaming may not succeed.
3.Roaming may fail if the Cisco AP enables the mixed security mode.
4.Roaming from AP1 to AP2 is not smooth enough.
5.When roaming in WPA-PSK network, it takes about 2 minutes to roam to another AP unexpectedly.
CF Modem driver Update
Failure symptom
Axim X51 running Mobile 5.0 is having problems with GlobalSat BC-337 GPS card/ GPS GlobalSat CF card. When the card is
inserted, the light is immediately on. It should go on when the application is started and off when the application closes. It
goes on when inserted and does not go off (the light) until the CF card is ejected.
thanks for the info jukov, which brings me to my next question. Why is the info from developers being used as information for the public? Does a dentist tell his patients "there's a purulent exudate coming out of the alveolar socket" instead of "there's pus coming out of the hole where the tooth used to be"?
