Thanks for that. I have A12 already, and think I'll give this a skip; unless anyone can advise to the contrary?

This update addresses issues with the WiFi that were not handled in A12 so the fact that you have it shouldn't factor into the decision to install this. From the way I read the 'fixes,' this mostly applies to using the Axim in situations that you want to roam between different networks. If this doesn't pertain to yoy, don't bother, but it shouldn't 'hurt' to install it.

BTW, there are at least three other threads about the update.

I actually installed it, tried and unstalled. Here's the reason. Everything seemed to work with the updated wi-fi driver, except one thing: whenever I selected a web site from my favorites in PIE, it would sit for an average of 10 sec in "Locating..." state when the site was accessed via the 1st link. Without the new driver it never takes more than 3 sec. I measured it several times and found old version faster.

I have updated although I'm on A12 and found that the connection to my AP is faster than before...hmmm. Previously it would take about 10 seconds but now its like 3 seconds.

What about the other "update": Dell Axim X51v VGA System Update for Windows Mobile Version 5.0, v.WWE, A02
Release Date: 7/3/2006
Description: Axim X51v system update utility with A12 English ROM image for Windows Mobile Version 5.0. This update can be applied to Axim X51v 624MHz only.

If I have A12 and x51v 624mhz, do I need to do this update???

I had to install it to try :) Using PIE, Aximsite takes 20 secs to open, with or without the new driver. Opera takes about 2 secs (which is probably why I went for it in the first place). As I say, I see no difference in PIE, though.
