That would be a good alt. if the usb host thats on the cpu cant be used, personally i like having my sd slot open for mem. cards, and my cf card open for extras.
The board arrived at my house this morning. :) Unfortunately, I'm still at work, so we'll all have to wait until Monday when I can bring it in to work and use the SMT reflow equipment to start to de-populate the unit. :approve: But not before I check it to see if I can fix it for Adamabrown first.
I got a private mail from a guy having a Acer N50 with broken screen.
He was in the hope of using it with an external screen
Because N50 is PXA270 based and USB HOST READY I asked him for a set of internal pictures.
I do not know if can be useful, who knows...
You can get all the internal pictures for the N50 and ANY other PDA that has either BT or WiFi at the FCC website. All you need it the FCC-ID number and this URL: https://gullfoss2.fcc.gov/prod/oet/c...ericSearch.cfm
Just ask him for the FCCID number.
Select the 'Detailed' link and whatever info you want afterwards :approve:
As for the tools needed to remove the BGA chips - I work in an engineering design centre. I have all the tools I need to 'play' with the X51v board on loan from Adamabrown.

You are right!, I forgot I read it from you at other thread about VGA to TV converter . I am going to ask him for the number.
Did you do same FCCID number check for Axim?
Can you post any link?

Just check the X50v FCCID number of NM8HC3U. NM8 is the 3 char customer code and HC3U is the product number. What I do is just enter the customer code to see how many products exist in that category. You can get TONS of info, including schematics (sometimes) from the FCC site.

maybe we could tell them our cause and ask them for the info based on the usb host 1 and offer to let them add it to there report if we find anything usefull.

its worth a shot at least.
They don't reverse-engineer stuff. They tear stuff apart, find out how much parts cost, determine if the manufacturer could be losing money (like Sony on the PS3) sell the reports to competitors so they know how their products compare. It costs alot of money to teardown something. Many companies would rather pay $3K for a report rather than $10K to have their staff do it.
Hmmm... somebody must have a "PDAs & Personal Appliances Channel license" that would allow them to access that info. There's a login link right on the website in case anybody wants to test it out....

OK - I received the X51v board finally and I'm looking at it. It will take me a little while to check this out and I'm taking pictures and making notes as I go through this so please bear with me as it's also starting to get busy where I work - you know - real work. ;)
So do any of you have any background in electronics engineering or anything similar? I dont see this being fruitful at all if not.
i believe bigbop stated a few pages ago that in his company, they put together PCB boards and use the same type of surface mounting technology that HTC used to build the Axim... i mean dell ...
and bigbop also left me with the impression that he could not only pull the chip off of the board with the equipment at his workplace, but also, if so inclined, put it back on.
though doing so would be a great feat of patience and testing (to ensure it's placed right on the board) which i don't think bigbop is willing to do. so, we wait. in the wings, secretly hoping he can't resolve whatever issue it is that's plaguing the board, so we can butcher it for our own personal gain :D
