I don't believe the Axim ever had the master side of the USB drivers, which would allow connecting USB devices to the Axim,
just modifying the registry without the actual driver would not help.
If someone out there has a usb driver for a ppc that would probably be the best starting point, but you'd have to have the source and be ab;e to modify it for this device.
They appeared to be present in the X50v A02 ROM

From what I can tell, there is no USB protection circuitry present - not even an emplty pad on the PDB. So, even if there is a connection to the PXA270 USB host pins, they may only be for boardtest purposes and in order to use them, we would have to build the CPU to real world interface (which is a small IC and a few other discrete parts).
I do dot know how to extract files from a Dell ROM image.
Maybe people who work at BT stack can give us some inputs.
A better way would be taking every thing from an C550, N560 or N50 PDAs. Remember we not only need files but also registy keys.
A device running Windows CE.NET 5 would be also valid.
Thank you Makuu for you post. It is just what we need to extract AND SIGN files.
But we are also goint to need Registry Keys, I suppose we can only get those from a old ROM version alredy installed (or from other PDAs)

I would be happy just having the motherboard lines

I agree. getting the drivers from a device that uses WM5, w/ the PXA270 chipset and actually has a functional USB Host, would be optimal. like i said, we can probably get the binaries (from the websites) but how would we extract the files?
additionally, if we can put a make-shift usb-style connector to the side of the unit (simmilar to the external antenna mod) and use short usb wires/connectors, we could link it straight into the real-world circuitry and potentially pump that connection straight into a HUB and get a few ports out of it.
heck, if the circuitry is as small as i'm thinking it is, you might even be able to embed it into an in-line connector setup so all you'd need is a custom wire to get the USB host working.
what would be better is if they did the needed circuitry direct on-board and routed the pins to the docking connector... chances are slim. however, there is the possibility that they routed the raw connector pins to the sync. port. though the chances of such a thing aren't high... it IS possible... good for marketing if they ever wanted to add a piggy-back device that added a USB host (which would be popular, considering how many people seem to want to find the USB host pin-outs and make use of them... ) possible, but again, unlikely.
bottom line, i think the best thing to do would be to reach out, see if we can find someone with an old A02 ROM or something and extract the key values & drivers, also, find someone with one of the PDAs in question (with the USB host already activated) and pull the drivers/registry settings from those... it'd be the only way we'd get properly signed drivers.

Right, this is the best option because so you can get files and registry keys.
But I think you missed previous Makuu post. He explain how to extract files and sign them.

i'm gonna do some poking around in the image, i was able to extract it using makuu's instructions (thanks :approve: ) i'll rar a copy of the entire contents of the binary to upload somewhere, though, i'm not sure where yet, if someone has a suggestion on where to upload it to host it for anyone interested in contributing to the project, just let me know, i'll put it there as soon as i see the post, then reply with the address to download.
so far so good.... now i need a binary from one of the PDAs in question (with the USB host already in use), and a way to view the registry contents.
Do you mean internal USB HOST could work with Ratoc or Deje driver?
It make sense, as I reported at the begining of the thread, Ratoc CF USB HOST also works when using Deje driver instead supplied driver.
Sorry, I was confused because I tested it time ago:
It does not extist Deje USB HOST Driver.
What does exist is Deje Mass Storage Driver. That is what I tested and works.
do you still belive Ratoc CF USB HOST Driver could work with internal USB HOST?

There were a number of threads on Brighthand regarding using the older Ratco host drivers. The new drivers are keyed to their card through the serial number.

OK, it is one more chance for the sotfware.
I keep all drivers from 1.8.1 to current 1.9.4.
