So I have a weird, repeatable error on my otherwise brilliant pda:
If I press the wireless on button...the window comes up saying press again within 5 secs...etc...I do, and the progress bars get all the way along bar one...and the Axim hangs... I can open other programmes (slowly) but the window remains and nothing happens. The Antenna/wireless icon does not even begin to move, so I suspect it's not even getting that far.
If I try a different approach, pressing and holding the stepped signal icon bottom right, I have the option to 'turn on' wireless... I press it and get the spinning WM5 icon in the middle of the screen and ...nothing...it hangs just the same.
The fix for both of these is to soft-reset (hole in the back)...the pda boots up, wireless kicks in automatically and everything is ok again!
The next 2 times I turn wireless on and off...no probs... I leave it an hour or so..and we're back to the same problem...
I have the same exact problem!! and posted about it in the wireless forum earlier this week. I thought that I had it solved by removing conflicting software that I installed, but that wasn't it either. My unit was purchased new and had ROM A12 installed from Dell. I'm going to try a hard resest this weekend to see if it clears up. Frustrating, isn't it?!
I fought with this same problem for a couple of weeks now. Yesterday, I finally broke down, crossed my fingers, and call Dell Tech Support. To my great surprise, the person was understandable, very helpful, and almost immediately upon hearing of my problem, offered to send a replacement X51v right out. I should have it later this week. So, I take that to mean that this is a hardware error indicative of a defective unit. I would encourage you to seek a replacement under warranty.
thanks for this advice, i'll ring them today. did they ask you to send back the faulty unit first?
j
They did not ask for the faulty unit back first. The replacement will come with an invoice that will not be in force unless I do not return my faulty original unit within a certain time. Best of luck with your replacement.
I had a simular problem. What fixed mine was de-configuring email. I had it set up to check my email on my cable service. That was taking a long time for it to do and the unit apeared to be locked up during that time. I decided I did not want email on my axim from my cable service. I usually just use yahoo.
I've been having the same problem. I found a WiFi patch offered by dell and ive only had it in there for about 10 minutes... but i cycled wifi over and over and over and its working fine now. Hitchhiker even behaves now! here is a link:
After awhile, it started doing its old thing again, and the patch was causing other problems, so i removed it. It kept randomly disconnecting and then slowly reconnecting to the network, very annoying! Urgh. Oh well.
I had the same problem. I found the conflicting driver that caused the problem in my case. I have the ThinkOutside (iGo) keyboard/mouse driver installed. With the IR coexist function enabled, I had the hang as you describe. Once I disabled the IR coexist function, all has been well.
I have also read that Magic Button causes a similar problem.
If you have either, you might want to uninstall them and see if it solves the problem.
i too spoke to soon about the patch..... now im having the same problem. I guess i'll try and uninstall magic button and see if it works, but i hate to see magic button go.
