Upgrading to WM05

HI I have a DellAximX50 (not v)..and I want to know if now I can install WIM05 or not in such device....:hide:

Because I want to try the "new" OS.... and I dont want to spend hours reading all the post about it.....

Can you do it...yes.

Should you do it??? It is probably not advisable. I have read very few posts from people who did it problem free.

I just upgraded. So far my only gripes are (1) my cf card vanishes randomly and (2) the unit's reaction time seems a bit slower... otherwise i'm happy with it so far! (though the speed is making me look seriously to upgrading to the x51v...)

Upgrade to a X51v... I tried all the tweaks and fixes and it was fine for a few months, ran really nicely, but the I was getting loads of WSOD's so had to go back... the only reason I wanted the new OS cos of cosmetic reasons and persistant storage, cosmetics are now dones with WA2 and WAD... and a spare battery takes care of the need for persistant storage. I do feel very let down by Dell.

Reading through this site for almost a year I have heard of nothing but trouble and very ugly hacks and tweaks to try and get a WM5 X50 into a state where it is simply just useable.

Most seem to say that you should just roll back to 2003 and stare in wonder as your X50 regains all its prior speed and beauty though there are some who do like WM5 and can deal with the quirkyness... Most seem to want an X51 for their trouble with WM5 and a lot report that it does in fact work a heck of a lot better on the X51 than it does the X50.

The X51v is my first PDA (and my partners too, she really liked it) and I have to say that looking at the differences I am glad I plumped for the X51v. The "flash memory as storage" just seems to make more sense than sacrificing RAM to the god of computing, though we do now sacrifice memory to the god of making WM5 run a bit faster...

lol..maybe later I will change my old and good X50... Ithink that the vGA screen is a nice adon for ebook reading..and the extra rom will help (anyway...I dont use my rom too much )

I asked this because the past week I lost all my apointments due to a battery problem..... with WM5 that never can happend

If you want to be a litle in left field, sure a battery CAN cause you to lose your data in WM05 - if it explodes (I did not say pop and leak, I said EXPLODE - I have a friend with scars from a Li-on AA battery exploding, and had to gore out about 2; of the earby wall when it happened), your whole Amix is dead (in fact, if the one in the X5x family explodes the axim would probably suffer quite a bit of structural damage considering the size...)

and with PPC 2003, there's this nice little backup utility to backup your PIM data to a SD/CF card, you might want to look at that if you dont want to go to WM05. (the longer I use WM05 the more I wonder if I should just go back to PPC03se - even if it's 100x better on the X51, that's still a large number of problems from what I've seen... though to me the diff is almsot as extreme as Win98 and WinXP)
