work just bought me a shiny new axim x51v. (now i can test my apps out on wm5!)
i like it quite a bit, but there's one very odd thing happening. activesync on it keeps starting up on its own. i think i've seen something here about it, but can't seem to locate the thread. is there a fix for this?
thanks in advance, i know you'll have something helpful for me.

Have you got the email setup to check for email every now and then automatically, when in the cradle? I take it do mean when it's in the cradle? (!!??)

If you mean that you check the running tasks and activesysnc is there, while not connected to your PC. Then yeah that is the way it works. With A12 this is not a problem. You can do the fake server trick and it might stop.
If you mean that when docked, or connected by usb cable, it syncs every other freak'n minute, and you can't get any sleep for it beeping and when you wayke up in the morning its battery is dead in the cradle..... Yeah that is the way it works. To stop this nonsence get Activesync Toggle from www.micrologics.co.uk and install it on your desktop.
I had this issue last night and I was tearing my hair out doing the FTS multiple times. These were my incidents :
1) I decided it would be cute if the Axim made the connect/disconnect noises when ActiveSync does its' thing. Turns out this causes ActiveSync to show up on every startup or soft reset so it can be there to make the cute noises. Solution was to remove the sound notifications them -- granted, they're disabled or unset by default so you'd have to go out of your way to turn them on.
2) For some reason, the last sync I performed was "bad" so it caused ActiveSync to restart on every startup or soft reset-- even after removing ALL sync'd machines. The solution? I re-synced, made sure I didn't interrupt the sync process and it behaved after that.

that would be the one.
is A12 a rom upgrade? if so, where can i acquire it?
i'll search for the fake server trick.

You will find the A12 upgrade file at the Dell service page - just put your x51v servicetag.
BTW: Long time - no see, greytrev :approve:
.
well, it appears a12 is already installed.
fake server trick didn't work for it either.
i guess i'll just live with it starting activesync at random uncradled times until MS decides to release a patch or something else occurs to fix it. Its annoying to hear it beep while listening to mp3's, tho.
heya zan. i've been super busy at work. might get a chance to make some more software tho :)

My x51v does this beeping and bringing up activesync every few minutes, but....
The dock dont have anything to do with it I found out.
I connected my 51 up to a plain ole usb cable to my desktop and Ill be dammed if the 51 didn't start with the beeping trying to find active sync and I had closed wcescomm.exe thru the ALT-CTRL-Delete windows task manager.
Its set somewhere in the 51. Wished we could find a toggel to turn it off.
activesync on it keeps starting up on its own. i think i've seen something here about it, but can't seem to locate the thread.
I have observed the same problem. However, it does not exist at "clear" device (right after HR). Thus, it is a consequence of a program installation. Which one? That is a question.
I am trying to determine, but it is a time consuming process with my amount of installed apps.
