"Cannot execute PIRefresh.exe"
Hi everyone! Great forum here. I recently got my 51v when it went on sale (finally) during the Canadian Dell days. I have learned a TON of info from reading and searching, but I have finally got my Axim into enough trouble to ask for help.
I installed a bunch of programs last night to do some testing, and ended up ditching most of them. Unfortunately, every time I sync, I get the "Cannot execute PIRefresh.exe" Notification Error. I have to tap "ok" three times to get it to disappear.
I have searched all the files on the Axim, and I find "pim.vol" in the My Device directory. This is the only file that doesn't belong. I tap and hold to delete, but I get "Cannot delete 'pim': there has been a sharing violation. The source or destination file may be in use." I even put the file in a New Folder, and tried to delete that, with no luck.
I installed Total Commader, and it tells me "Warning!" "Could not delete 1 file(s)!"
I can't delete it from my PC, either.
Any advice, or is my first Hard Reset in my future? This message isn't affecting the functionality, it is just driving me crazy...
Thanks in advance,
Jason.

PIM.VOL was new with WM5 and is where the PIM info is stored. You cannot delete it. PIRefresh sounds like part of PocketInformant, but I do not have it and I do have PI. Perhaps it is WM5-only too?
A thought ... Did you install PocketInformant, make it the default PIM, and then deinstall it?

Yes, PocketInformant was one of the installs. I think I did make it the default PIM. I then uninstalled it because I noticed it was an evaluation version. This serves me right for loading software late at night.
How do I get rid of this message?
Also, I will stop trying to uninstall pim.vol and take it out of that folder.

I would probably just reinstall PI, make it not the default PIM, and then re-de-install it rather than trying to figure out why. That may not be the problem anyway, but it is fairly easy to try ;).
I believe that the evaluation version is a fully function version for some period of time.

Try reinstalling Pocket Informant. Uncheck it as the default PIM and then use Remove Programs to uninstall it.

Thanks, guys.
In my mad rush to try and fix the problem, I may have deleted it from my PC as well. I went to the Add/Remove programs in Active Sync, and I think I deleted it "From both locations"...
Life as a noob sucks.
I am off to try and get it from their website...
Jason.

Installed PocketInformant 2007, and all seems well. I did NOT choose to make it the default PIM. It looks pretty cool, so I will try and figure out how to use it for a bit instead of just deleting it.
I'll keep everyone posted if the message returns (before or after I delete the program).
Next up: putting my DVDs on an SD card. I am on my third tutorial with no luck so far...

I strongly advise downloading the manual for PocketInformant. This program is highly customizable. There is a User Forum for PocketInformant that you may find useful. Also, the public beta for Revision 2 of PocketInformant is available and is quite stable.

Yes, I found their forum when I was looking for a solution. I also saved the PDF for the manual when I re-installed. So far, so good!

You need conversion sw. to record your DVD to pocket format then copy to a mem. card! I use pocket-DVD-studio. It's very easy to setup and use and you can download Divx codec which works well with TCPMP player!
