Ratoc CF USB host owners: Request for a Webcam test

I am trying to find out if there is any Webcam that works with Gotdonet Driver.
I believe that driver is the unique one that exists for PDA.
The camera used to develop the driver was a Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000 but it is supposed to work with any camera that meets “USB Video Specification”.

If you own a CF USB HOST and you have any USB Webcam, please do this short test:
  1. Copy attached WebCam.dll file to PDA \windows directory.
  2. Connect Webcam to PDA.
  3. If you get a window asking for the driver just enter: WebCam
  4. Post the results!

(EDIT 11.01.06) If you get the message: "unidentified USB Device" it probably means driver was not found. You can check it just writing anything insted "webcam" to see you get same output. Please make sure WebCam.dll is at \Windows directory.
When your Webcam is not accepted you should get same input window to type another driver name.

(EDIT 11.01.06) See post #12 for a list of possible valid cameras. There must be others.

(EDIT 11.01.06) Replaced WebCam driver file by other I compiled for Windows Mobile and I added all known UVC cameras listed at post #12. Original driver only had codes for first four cameras.

(EDIT 11.01.06) Added CamTest2 file to test the camera. Just in case you succeed with the driver!! :approve: :approve:

(EDIT 11.10.06) Added pics and spec links for all "possible supported" cameras at post #16.

File Type: zip WebCam_WM2003.zip (13.2 KB, 88 views)

Tested on x51v with Aiptek dv3300 (it's a digital cam that can be used as webcam too)
installed driver
soft-resetted the device
connected
Windows keep asking for the driver name: "unidentified USB Device"

Tried with a Typhoon VGA webcam and a Premier DC526 dual digital camera/webcam.

The result is the same: "Error installing the webcam USB driver".

Any idea about which are the useful webcams with this driver?

Probably none because maybe the problem is the 1.1 spec of our USB host.
Perhaps we should try a old 1.1 webcam. But in that case maybe it does not meet "USB Video Specification".

But the only thing we can do is test as many as possible.

Ratoc owners: please test!!!!

Both webcams i tried have USB 1.1 compatibility (when i purchased them there wasn't USB 2.0).

The problem may be what you said, the 1.1 webcams doesn't meet the USB video, but, who knows??

I am downloading "Windows Mobile 5.0 Developer Resource Kit"
In a couple of hours I will try to recompile the driver for WM5.0.

Current driver is for Windows CE 5.0 but it should work. For example eGalax driver I am using with my touchscreen is also for WinCE5.0 and works great.

I do not think it is the problem but it is just to give it another try :)

This project is also based on Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000,
Maybe that the only one to work with Gotdonet driver
I am still tying to compile the driver for WM5.0...

I could finally compile the driver for Windows Mobile.
I just replaced the driver attached at first post.

I added inside the driver all known UVC cameras listed at post #12. Original driver only had codes for first four cameras.

I also added at first post the CamTest2 file to test the camera.
Just in case you succeed with the driver!! :approve: :approve:

If your camera is not listed at post #12 and you believe it is UVC (USB Video Class) compliant, please try to find the “Device ID” code and I will add it to the driver.

I just read that there are some camcorders that are USB Video Class (UVC) compliant, like JVC GRD-Z7U.

So you guys having Ratoc CF can broad the range of devices to test

Because I am not planning to but a webcam just to test with, each time I go to a computer store I ask for the webcams listed to be UVC, just to give it a try at the same store desk (I have not found any store with stock yet)
