Unable to delete a file off BIS
Hello any and all,
I did a search on this forum and google. I'm having a problem deleting a folder and its files from BIS. Message in file explorer is "cannot delete [filenames]: access is denied. Make sure the disk is not write protected or full and the file is not currently in use."
All of those conditions have been met but I still can't delete the files. Is there a way to format BIS?
Oh yeah, this is a Dell Axim x50v WM03, A05.
And I tried format using resco explorer with no effect. Says I can't format BIS.

Have you tried Activesync/Explore to delete it? Are you sure it's NOT in use? Can you share the filename and folder name so we can see if it's particular to the file itself?

It's the SPB Diary folder. I did a hard reset and still can't delete it using Activesync explorer, the file explorer or resco explorer.
Just won't use BIS anymore.

I would reinstall the latest ROM.

Mr. Doe:
I would except I haven't a Rom image of any previous ROM version. And Dell in all their silliness, doesn't allow a ROM downgrade.
Eventually the answer will find me and present itself. 'Til then...
Thanks Jake and John for the input.

If you flash a copy of a ROM to your Axim using the SD image loader the BIS will be formatted once you hard reset.

Awesome. Thanks. I tried it but alas, it didn't get rid of the folder in BIS.
But I'm glad for the experience as this procedure of SD flashing might come in handy one day. Especially now that I have the crc and nbo files for WM2k3 A05.
Anyway, it just refuses to delete the files. I'm at a loss. I can't believe it survived an image flash. I did it twice which took about 10 minutes each try.

Try copying a file into this directory in BIS, soft reset, then again try to delete the directory with Resco File Explorer. If the file system was corrupted, you may not be able to copy a file into that tree and if you are able to copy a file into it it may rewrite the directory entry allowing you to then delete it. It is a longshot, but simple enough to be worth a try.

I hate to say I have an idea on why it survived. I assumed the BIS format occurs every time you flash the ROM using the SD image loader. It might only occur when you switch between WM5 and WM2003. (The two OS's use the space for differant uses)

Thanks again for the help but no dice. It's like a gremlin. I just won't go away.
I even tried moving the directory to ram"s Temp directory - soft reset - then delete what was left in the directory in BIS. No dice.
Oh well. Thanks again though. Your advice might lead me on the right track. I think I might need to try this in safe mode.

How about renaming the folder &/or files, soft reset and delete?
I am guessing somehow SPB is hooked into the os, and the os somehow finds these files in BIS even after a hard reset (which seems extreemely unusual).
So, I'd try contacting SPB and see if they have any advice.

I routinely go into the registry and manually clean out the debris left behind by applications, then soft reset and check the registry again.

Try Settings/Today/Items and make sure nothing is checked there for SBP. Then go to /windows/startup and make sure there isn't anything there for SBP. Delete it if is it. Once these two steps have been taken, soft reset and try again.

Yep. That might be why. Not willing to try WM5 for fear of a brick. But thanks again for the suggestion.
