calender items won't sync

I noticed a few weeks ago not all my calendar items synced. when I tried to resolve it, it just continued to show "resolving items..." but never completed it. Since then, the list of items that can't resolve has gradually grown.

I have an x50 running 2003 and ActiveSync 3.8. Should I upgrade to 4.1? And if so, is this just something I can download and install from microsoft or do I have to uninstall the current version of AS before installing the newer version?

First, do you have, in the options/settings of the Desktop ActiveSync, Syncronize all appointments checked? If not, check that and try again.

Another likely possibility is if you have notes attached to appointments. ActiveSync seems to have some difficulties with these.
