Worried Date and time update after reset locks Axim

Hello all. My first post here and, yes, its about a problem...

My Axim locked and I had to reset it with the power+reset button. I didn't made a clear-reset because I didn't want to loose all my personal data.

When it booted back the date has been reset to 1st july 2005, as expected by what i could read from other threads. It scared the hell out of me because it seemed my appointments where gone! Wew! In fact they were all there, just one year ahead! ;)

Then the problem arrived: when I updated the date and time, my Axim "locked". I mean, it almost locked, but responded veeeery slowly. My guess is that it was computing all and every event that happened during this "year that passed in a second" and just couldn't come back from it!

Trying to lower the processing needs of this change, I hard-reseted it again and before changing the date, i turned off all "reminders" notifications in "sound and notifications" settings. It still locked up but, at least, was a bit more responsive this time.

Now I'm just waiting to see if it finishes whatever its doing...

Does anyone have gone through a similar situation and managed to find a solution? Is there a way to avoid reminders checking when changing the time/date?

I'm not used to clean up old appointments/tasks and it may contribute a lot for this problem. How do you all handle old appointments? Archive them somehow? Simply delete them?

Thanks for any replies...

I was almost forgetting!

Two things I forgot to say:
- My Axim is a x51v, updated to A12
- Sorry about the long post...

Done it!

I managed to find a way:
* Hard reset to unlock it;
* Backup all personal data to my SD card;
* Hard reset and clear to factory default;
* Updated date and time;
* Restored from backup!

This way, the date/time change wouldn't trigger my personal remiders because they just where not there! :approve:

Well... In fact, I'm still having problems...

I discovered what made my Axim crash in the first place: Every time ActiveSync starts synchronizing my Calendar it gets stuck on "Processing" and my Axim gets locked. Even after soft reseting it won't come back. And here I go again clearing everything and restoring from the backup...

Can appointments from the handheld get corrupted and not sync?

Anyone? Help? Please?

I'm definetly lost.... No mather what I do, whenever I sync the first time with ActiveSync, synchronization goes bad, halts anywhere, and my Axim needs a clear-reset again.... :(

I'm starting to think I have a bad one... Any way to test it? Anyone?

Icon3 The solution!

Well, well.. still no answers but, finally (I hope!), I found the problem! But not without pain, suffering and many -- I said MANY -- hard-resets! :rolling:

By luck I could, once in every 10 sync retries, get some of the data to my desktop Outlook. Then I could at least sync it back to the Axim after hard-resets (its easier then restoring from a backup in SD). But even with all my data kept safe at my desktop, the sync problems kept on occurring.

After trying many things, I saw that there where some weird "birthday appointments" showing up in Outlook. By using the find function from the calendar folder, I removed all of them.

I found also that in my Contacts they were also some kind of attachments to each contact that had a birthday set. Removed those attachs from each contact.

On the spot! All sub sequential synchronizations worked flawless!

I don't know yet what program creates this "appointment version" of birthday reminders. I guess it's AgendaFusion or a today birthday plugin by David Andrs. Will check that later.

Hope this will help others! :approve:

More discoveries

Just when I thought I had it done:

- These birthday appointments are not created by those two applications I mentioned. In fact, they're automatically created by the desktop version of MS Outlook, when synchronizing. I'm not sure anymore that that was the exact cause of all the problems.

- Another guess: I also had Plaxo's Outlook plugin installed (www.plaxo.com). I uninstalled it yesterday and will do some more tests now. Before that, I was still having problems...
