Is this normal?

Hi, newbie question and I don't know what keywords to use to search for similar threads. I noticed that browsing the internet is much slower on a ppc than on a real pc/laptop. Is this normal because ppc's don't have the same hardware and stuff?

it is because of the graphics that the PPC is trying to display. The refresh rate is faster on a PC deu to RAM and dedicated video cards with memory. Not all site offer PPC format and if you try some site you will download the same thing as if on you PC.

There's quite a few reasons that I can think of:

* PPCs have a smaller screen than computers, and in order to make viewing easier everything gets scaled down (unless you change the settings) to fit the screen better. This is slow.

* The processor is slower compared to a PC anyway. If you try browsing the internet on an old PC (say around 600mhz, 64MB RAM like the Axim) you will find it noticeably slower. The processor is actually quite important as it is used to "render" the computer code (HTML) that makes up web pages into the readable formatted page you see whenever you look at a website.

* Pocket IE is a fairly slow browser. Opera is much faster (but you have to buy it unfortunately, although there is a 30 day trial).

If you turn of images and use "Desktop" display mode in Pocket IE it should run faster but be more difficult to read. Also more basic sites with less images, less complicated layouts will be much much faster.

I have the trial version of opera but I found it slower than Pocket IE. Pocket IE is simpler and loads everything faster but uglier.

Another question. Is it normal for msn to take minutes to sign on???

opera also crashes more but u can access sites that PIE can't access and the screen doesn't glitch up when using opera like it does in PIE.

I thought Opera was faster but after I tested it again today, it is slower, sorry for misleading.

I love Opera, on my Axim at any rate it's really about 10 times faster than PIE. I haven't used the latter for months!
