Last Christmas, my best friend got an Axim X51v. He used it once to play some games but other than that, it sat in the box up until this last weekend. So I volunteered to take it off his hands.
I've been reading some not so good things about this little bugger. If I read the Start> Settings> System> System Information correctly, this thing has ROM Version A01. That seems to be quite a bit older than most versions being discussed here. Is it really worth upgrading to another Axx version, and if so, how?
I just bought a bluetooth headset, mostly for use with my cell phone for work, but the microphone is removable so it can become wireless headphones. It pairs up perfectly fine with the X51v but nothing plays. I read through and tried to make out what was being discussed in most of the threads here about bluetooth, and managed to get the x51v to the point that I can see Wireless Stereo in the services box under Partnership Settings. But there must still be something missing. Still no sound from the headphones. So I read some more and need to ask, what is the Widcomm Stack? What is an Audio Gateway? Do I need a headset profile, handsfree profile, handsome profile, e-i-e-i-o? YIKES... the tech-speak and acronyms!!! I can understand some of it... but can't figure out where to get half the stuff being talked about here.
So... can someone make it easy for an old fart to understand how to make this thing work? My memory is starting to fade so I'm looking forward to carying a little extra hardware memory with me! Thanks for reading everyone.
It is definately worth upgrading to the latest ROM (A12). There are numerous speed improvements and some added functionality in the latest ROM, some have even said it cures hunger and promotes world peace... ;)
Follow the directions from the following thread, I know it says A06 to A12 but everything it says should be the same for A01 as A06.
It's the info in the second post you need but I would stop where it says "***YOU ARE NOW AT ROM A12***" in those instructions, the rest are his personal preference.
Once you update to the latest ROM *some* of the functionality of the headset may be useable, but I'm not certain as I don't have a headset to use with mine.
I'm sorry I can't post a link to the update itself, my internet is being stupid at the moment....

to Aximsite. You will need to upgrade to a12 in order to use the audio feature of the headset. A12 supports this. A12 installs the profile that you need. (I can't remember what M$ calls it.)
After using the M$ stack for a while, you may want to upgrade by installing the widcomm project stack. The widcomm stack has more profiles and is easier to manage. It does take up memory, but with the x51v, it is not really a problem. It is very easy to install and completely reversable, so if you don't like it you are not stuck. Good Luck
I'll try not to sound too "noob", but some things just don't connect anymore in the ol' brainbox. Those are good directions for upgrading the ROM. I just downloaded the ROM upgrade file... so here's goes!
Good luck with the update, you shouldn't have any problems so long as you are careful and pay attention to the instructions all should go well.
Welcome to the community!

Like most things in life... there's good news and bad. The upgrade to A12 worked awesomely!! The bad news is, there's still no sound from the bluetooth headphones. I noticed now that under Connections> Bluetooth I see my headphones are paired (as before) and when I hold the stylus on my device, "Anycom Stereo Headset", one of the options is "Set as Wireless Stereo." But I still don't see anything in Partnership Settings except Wireless Stereo. I think I remember reading that there has to be two profiles at least, for wireless headphones to work:
Wireless Stereo
Headset (or handsfree... I'm not sure which.)
Can anyone confirm this as a fact? I did notice that with the A12 upgrade, there's an option under USB to PC called Advanced Network Functionality. With this turned on, the VPN client on my work laptop instantly disconnects from my work with an error message about needing to be bound to the same interface as the Ax, (I like calling it that already...) So when I turn off that USB option, there is no longer a problem having my laptop VPN'd into my work and having the Ax connected at the same time. Yippee-skippee!
A short while later..............
I'm not sure what I did but I have music in my headphones now, but it's like pulsing. very, very short pulse of music, silence, music, silence, etc. That's the bad news; the good news is that these headphones have a control switch that allows remote control of the play, and stop functions and they actually work. I can stop and start the pulsing music. ONWARDS!
I don't have a bluetooth headset either, but have you tried installing the Widcomm bluetooth stack? I have it installed and now I can send contacts to my phone, where with the older stack I couldn't.

i'd like to recommend this stack too. it has a built-in HID profile for just about everything... no outside drivers needed, ever. and from what i understand, the bitrate and sond quality of the widcomm stack compared to the BT stack from MS, has been vastly increased... so it might just fix your sound problem... (dunno if you're still having that)...
you'll have to re-pair the units, but beyond that minor annoyance (that happens only once :P ) it should fix it right up and make it 100% for you.
